Texting, hands free sets and DUI checkpoints

For those driving in from the East: Utah has passed a law recently outlawing texting while driving. This has been the subject of intense enforcement, with people landing in jail (saw the news story teaser, haven't found the video). Also, as in California, you're supposed to have a handsfree set for the phone.

Another thing: Utah has been cracking down on impaired driving and does sweeps and checkpoints throughout the year. Do be safe and sober when passing through our state. They've also been enforcing speed through construction zones rather heavily after several deaths.

And other states which have new stuff going on since last year? Other than I-80 construction? which is never new, just changes location...

Travel hint: check the DOT page for each state you will be transiting for road construction.

Be safe.

If you're driving from the northeast and plan to shortcut through Canada don't forget you need a passport now.
