You could have just search the website. It's really easy.foxxc wrote:What are the rules with e-bicycles? Isn't it they cant have a seat?

Here are the rules.
"Small motorized scooters (two wheeled, lightweight, standup, small, no-seat, off-street type) and go-peds are allowed in Black Rock City but they are subject to the same rules as any other motorized vehicles - drive 5 MPH and have front and rear lights at night. BLM Rangers will issue citations for non-compliance."
Gah, I hope you aren't thinking of buying a seatless scooter. Those things aren't very playa friendly. They are obnoxiously loud, dangerous for pedestrians and yourself, and they kick up a lot of dust. There is hot debate whether or not they should even be permitted at the event. I personally detest anyone who rides one.

Re: electric bikes?
You are surrounded by constant noise for 8 days... Sound systems, bull horns, explosions, sirens, people, the sounds of the city... And a scooter that goes in and out of your hearing range within 10 seconds is the obnoxious part huh? If you know how to use them and obey the speed limit there is no problems with them. You detest people for riding a scooter? You sound like one of those suckers who 'detest' others for not being dressed up in a stupid looking costume.foxxc wrote:Gah, I hope you aren't thinking of buying a seatless scooter. Besides there are electric ones too that work great and make no noise... For all you sensitive to hearing burners out there.
Sorry I'm feeling fiery. Want to burn NOW!

my understanding is this: if you sit on it and it has a motor, it must be mutated, and registered.
hub motors look more stealthy, and I've seen a few flying under the radar. There are posts from folks who have taken electric bikes, but I'd look into it closely before making the decision. I don't think it is perfectly o.k. by the rules.

Uh, yeah most people don't ride them at the speed of 5 MPH limit. What would the point? I'v been almost crashed into too many times by riders looking the other directions for me to "like" them.
P.S. I work 30 hours+ at the burn not in costume. So much for sucker, right? Take your bad attitude elsewhere

Yes, it _is_ the obnoxious part. I hate those jerkoff gopeds and their obnoxious motors that drive in and out of my hearing range - but it takes _much_ longer than 10 seconds. And besides, when I'm standing out on the open playa admiring some piece of artwork in the solitude of space, some jerkoff comes riding up on his goped, gets off, leaves it _running_, and wanders around looking at the art while the grinding, obnoxious noise of his jerkoff goped continues, then he hops on and rides off - I _don't_ like it. It disturbs my peace. Jerkoff mopeds should be dropped in the open palm of the giant hand and _crushed_ like the junk they are.
Your mileage will vary. You're entitled to have a different opinion, just as I am.

Re: electric bikes?
I've been nearly run into and seen way more accidents from people on bikes than ever on scooters. There are way more people speeding on bikes than scooters. Mostly because there are more bikes than scooters but still. Just because someone is looking the other direction, has nothing to do with what they are riding. If they aren't paying attention they aren't paying attention. Bike or scooter your still causing a disaster.DoriumLux wrote:Uh, yeah most people don't ride them at the speed of 5 MPH limit. This still has nothing to do with your comment about the noise. And yea sucker still, I was saying that to make a point, not to find out how many hours you work or if you actually wear a costume. Your just going to dislike someone you don't even know simply because they are riding a scooter. Sounds similar to people who are sour towards others who are not wearing costumes. I'm not having a bad attitude about anything. I just think its stupid people throw up invalid arguments so I have no problem saying something. Who is the one sitting here saying they dis "like" people? And I have the bad attitude?
So of all the stupid people I have seen speeding on bikes, I should just not "like" anyone who I see on a bike now? No. Thats ridiculous. Respect the road and the people no matter what you drive. And don't hate on people because of what they drive. If they kick up dirt and are hauling ass then by all means say something.
Not trying to be a dick, just saying.
Happy burn.

phil you are totally right. I'm not saying it doesn't bother people. Hell people talking loudly while walking by my tent bothers me. But if its not against the rules, then really who am I to tell someone how they should get around.
Again so long as they follow the rules. Speed, etc... But there doesn't seem to be any rules against those things yet. Its the generators that get really loud sometimes... And they don't hop on and leave. They are constantly there. Buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

The rules
e-bikes are so cool. But somehow they fall outside the rules except the five mile an hour thing. You can get them officially recharged but they a technical violation that nobody is looking for. Here's a chance to be a BM pirate again.
