Meteor Shower
The best view of the meteors will be from the west coast of North America, before dawn on [Saturday] 1 September. Based on past showers, there should be up to 200 bright meteors visible per hour, and they may have an unusual blue-green colour.
The Perseid meteor shower peaks this weekend. While on my way home from work Friday night, actually 12:10am Saturday, Aug 11th, I was on southbound on I580 (aka 395) near Damonte Ranch in south Reno, the whole sky looking S/SW lit up for about three seconds. I swore it could'nt be lightning so I leaned foward to look up out the windshield and there was a broken orange streak, like hundreds of "sparks" going in a striaght line. I'm assuming it was a fireball. A meteorite that hit the earth in pieces somewhere. More than likely in the ocean between california and Hawaii. The largest piece I would think was probably no bigger than a baseball. Or it could have been space junk, but that would'nt light up the sky. Saw something similar in November 04 while driving west on US 50 between Fallon and Silver Spring comming back from the ghost town of Candelaria which is between Tonopah and Hawthorne. That was around 10 pm.

It's that time of year again - Perseids are expected tonight.
My area has bad weather, but everyone else should just have to contest with the moon stealing the show.

Nasa should update the Real Time Data link with info on ISS viewings for our camping trip this year. I will post them when they do. As of this writing it only shows through 8-29-09.
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/si ... ted+States
If you notice the link "Nasa Skywatch" in the paragraph at the top of the page, it allows you to dial in a place using Lat and Long, I have tried to get it to work and show me further in the future, maybe someone else can figure it out.
Oh, almost forgot, I got to wave at the ISS and crew this morning. At 5:08am I had a 4 minute viewing. It was great, and boy is that thing bright.

Because "some people" didn't want to drive to winnemucca to see the ISS and Shuttle, I have bribed NASA for info that applies to the Black Rock.
You will notice that all the views are in the early morning until Sept 5, when you can see both the ISS and shuttle a little after 8:00pm (the shuttle has to launch the day after tomorrow, the 25th of August)NASA SKYWATCH SKYLOG OUTPUT
