Beer!
Thank you!
I predict Monday, August 31st, (opening day) will be your busiest day. You will get heavy traffic also on the weekend prior, due to early entry folks.
Exodus on Monday, September 7th, will also be heavy due to folks leaving. Of course, some folks leave Saturday after the Man burns, and some folks leave Sunday after the Temple burns.
Shuttle bus carries 20-30 people. So during the week depending on the bus turnaround, you will get a bus crunch every hour or two.
I hope this helps you with your staffing needs. Remember that this an annual event. I hope we can do right by you. You have already helped our community a great deal by asking what we need before hand.

On another note, I'm taking special gifts and I'll gift you with what you really want on the playa-
A Night of Special Fun with ME!
You haven't experience Extasy until you done it with me!
I call ExSextasy! More then you could ever dream of on the playa.
If you want to play then follow these directions to the letter.
About 6:00 pm, my boytoy will be at the base of the Man. he will be wearing a tall top hat with a purple boa and white tuxedo. If what you have to offer is to his liking, and it better be a special quality gift, he will give you the map to get to where I will be waiting with Exsextasy!
Oh I can't wait for you to enter my camp entrance!
We will have an out of body experience and you will experience the juice of the gods.

On a different note...we have been getting phone calls (not me personally) from concerned burners saying the rumor has it the store is closed and/or will be closed for Burning Man!!!
Nothing could be farther from the truth! Are there some of you who participate in other forums where you might be able to dispell this rumor??? Or lead me to em and I will type the post. This is the only site I know of, are there more???

Glad the store is open.
BUT she is right, your getting
SPECIAL TREATMENT HERE.
If you where not in Empire, you would not be allowed to post about your store more then likely.
I doubt they would let Twin City Surplus in Reno Post on this forum.

I understand the non-commercialism concept/philosophy that is behind BurningMan! On the same hand is reality! They SELL ICE and they SELL COFFEE on the Playa! WHY??? Because in reality...people really need this and it is too expensive/UNREALISTIC to "Gift It"! Because...someone had to reach into their pocket and spend $$$$ to purchase this stuff.
There are sometimes when you can't avoid it! Otherwise the tickets would be "Gifted" to everybody!!!
I am on here for the sole purpose of mending a "rip" in the fabric, if you will! Only asking what we can do for the masses and TRYING to let EVERYONE know that the RUMORS that the store is CLOSED are indeed RUMORS!!!
No replies re: other burner forums...
Does anyone know of other sites where I could spread the word that the store isn't closed???
Thanks!!!
Andy

Thanks Steven! I just tried to register and there's a problem with their server. I'll try later!
Meanwhile...working around the place pulling weeds (Nevada state flower) and trying to make the place a little more presentable!
I am going to be manning the BBQ Grill after 4:30PM every day! Please stop in and say hi!
Quick ??? Are veggie burgers something to have on the grill??? I am going to be doing burgers and dogs! I thought about ribs but they take alot of time and space! We might possibly have grilled steak sandwiches as well. No firm decisions that way.
I am also trying to get the Taco thing ironed out.
Whadda you think...
Hamburgers
Hot Dogs
Tacos
Salads ???

I understand the "no commerce" thing here. I actually was passing through Empire and attempted to walk into the Empire Store and nearly walked right into the steel grate that was pulled down behind the door. I could hear the store being ransacked. I photographed the hand lettered sign on the door.
This store has become the lifeline for so many burners needing supplies and gas on the way into the event as well as during the week.
The desire to get this store back up and running in time for all of us to benefit from this well stocked variety store should be celebrated and commended.
This is much more a service to all of us rather than advertising the store itself.
There is an attempt to dispell rumors that the store is closed. That's why there is so much posting here.
THE STORE IS OPEN FOR ALL OF US AND WELL STOCKED WITH SUPPLIES!

Participants who leave and return by personal vehicle will be required to pay $20 per person.
The alternative is our community shuttle service, which travels between Black Rock City and the nearby towns of Gerlach and Empire. The burning shuttle leaves every 2 hours; between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, and between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
There will be only one "stop" in Black Rock City to pick up and discharge passengers. The Bus Depot location is on the outer edge of the Center Camp Circle, on Ring Road at the 6 o'clock exit from Center Camp.
Once the bus leaves Black Rock City, it will stop in Gerlach, then finish its route in Empire. The bus will wait for a little while at the Empire Store before returning back through Gerlach where it stops again. You can pop out in Gerlach to make a phone call, and then wait for the bus to return after the Empire stop.
Tickets for the bus are available in center camp. It costs $10.00 to leave the city on the bus. You must have a valid Burning Man ticket stub AND a bus ticket, OR a gate re-entry chit (which you will receive if left by car) to ride the bus back into the city. Conversely, if you return to the city by car, you must have a Burning Man ticket stub AND a bus ticket (you need to show BOTH items to get back into Black Rock City).
*IMPORTANT: you must be sober and fully clothed to ride the bus. Please respect the locals - they are patient beyond belief, and tolerate our teeming masses when we invade their community each year.

To reiterate: buses leave BRC every two hours starting Wed at 10 am to 4 pm.( four busses.) Ditto for Thursday and Friday.( four busses.)
Saturday will be a short day, 10 am to 2pm departures from BRC.( 3 busses.)
Mykidsdaddy, I hope this helps you in staffing your family's store for us burners. In a city of 40,000, shit happens. Supplies are consumed, or wasted, or destroyed. Accidents happen, etc... you get the drift. I thank you for all the hard work that has been done to accomodate us.
I have used the shuttle to go to Bruno's two years ago to make a phone call. While there I ate a fine cafe meal and had a beverage in the bar. We support the whole town when we patronize the local establishments. It's called being a good neighbor.
Ps. Stop at the Rez on your way thru; stop at the taco stands and other businesses. They put up with a lot of our transient shit.

The tradition of NO commerce on the eplaya is a long one, but in regards to dvd-r, my suggestion would be to find another thread to read. The Empire Store has been a godsend to many a burner over the years and supporting local business in Empire and Gerlach can pay off in spades when the next controversy arises and BM LLC needs local support. (The work ranch mess is what I'm thinking of as I write this).
If I was attending this year I would make it a point to hang a left off of Jungo Road and drive that mile up to the Empire Store. Considering what has been done to get that store operational and considering how he's trying to bend over backwards to give the community what they want...he deserves our support, IMHO. I certainly wish the Empire Store the best of luck this year and in years to come.

Yes I am a sock, but not a troll, what I post I believe and I try not to be overly offensive, just trying to get my point across.
I have been supportive of the store being there to "accommodate" our needs.
I am commenting now because I think the OP is NOW using this forum, eplaya to make money. I don't think the OP would even debate that. Do YOU want people to only post because they are going to make money?
The store and gas station are open. The point has been made. The first post in this thread from June tells us that the gas station and store are open.
Now we are being told there are 1000 cases of beer for sale, I think some camps bring 500 gallons of booze and give it away.
We know that a few of the display racks and other things in the store were gifts from burners.
Now, since the OP only posts to promote his store, he does not contribute in anyother way to eplaya, I thought we might all want to be reminded of why we can develop such great relationships on the playa, because we know there is no money motive in someone treating us some way. The idea is that the only reason the OP seems to like us and wants to please us is because there is a profit in being nice to us. How many times have we thought someone liked us and wanted to be our friend to find out that they really just wanted to profit from the relationship.
I understand that we need this store, but I do believe that if the store wasn't open, someone would fill the space, someone would find a way to provide the service and make the money.
At this point the only reason the op posts is to drum up cash sells.
Did past issues get dealt with, (mars gas cap and someones shitty tire)

None of this is a gift. It is a service, like black water pumping. Remember when you pay for a service the person you are giving money to might pretend to like you, might pretend to be your friend, since he wants your money.Quick ??? Before you get chased off the board here by the local water hauler, would you mind telling me if you have decided on hours of operation during the burn and after?
I want to put the local services in our playa newspaper with their hours of operation so burners will know when you're open.
Thanks
Deb
PS and if anyone has a phone number for Bruno's I need to call them for their hours too and for the Shell Station.

Sorry if people can not figure out the store is open when they drive by well wonder how they are going to do in the BRC.
Glad the store is open
But to my knowlegde "The Store" never had to post on the eplaya before.
What you don't get Deb, and part of why I object to you being a spokesperson for the community, is that this is not a burner owned business. The only time the owner (op) posts is to promote his business or ask for assistance.
There are business all over that help burners. There are stores that change their hours so that burners can get what they need.
There are burner owned business that gift the community, this is not one.
I did not object to the OP's thread until this pointnow that he is advertising his stuff. You tell me DEB at what point would it be commercialism.
And, as to the water trucks, Deb you stated that the water was poopy water that had just been filtered. You were wrong about that.
I was wrong for saying people should run behind the water truck.

Can't we all just get along?
I'm somewhat ambivalent on this issue; I see the positives certainly and see no negatives about having the store open. Now certainly, in years past, their tacos sucked compared to Indian tacos, but apart from that, I think they are doing a fine job. A little "advertising" is something, in this case, we should probably embrace.
Need to work on the tacos however.

The short answer is: nothing.
The long answer is TICKETS in the 2008 ticket forum.
Eplaya is non-commercial, no one may sell any item or service here. Yes, people may ask for and make recommendations on good deals or where to find specific things. No sales. No advertising of your own business. No renting houses, sublets or roommates. Basically, no classified ads.
This is all in the Terms of Service and the Community Guidelines which all members agree to when they sign up.

Technicalities. Grey areas happen. That's why you get me (and 007 and dork) as real live people who get to make decisions, not a robot moderator who simply enforces rules without fail. Yes, it concerns commerce. Is it commerce itself? Hmm.
The Empire Store is not selling on eplaya. You actually have to go there to purchase things, it is a resource on the way. An institution.
There was a change in status quo, a situation which needed to be announced and discussed. That someone from the store wants to know what WE want? How many store owners do that? How many store owners are going to try and attend the event and be burners? He's participating, not slapping up an ad and vanishing.
So I'm happy to let this thread roll. Those who are not are certainly free to explain why I am wrong.
