So I heard a lot about Burning Man, decided to finally check it out, and I LOVE the whole idea and concept and vibe of it all!

So about me:
My name's Kim,
I'm 19,
I live in Thomasville, GA,
I'm going to college, and
I love music!

I won't be attending this year but I've definitely plans for 2010. I'm kinda lost (though I've read the massive survival guide).

Maybe you guys could answer some questions for me?

-Since I'll be going to Burning Man with my man, and we'll be needing over 20 gallons of water, what do I store it in?

-Grey water?

-What gifts should I bring?

Any questions you'd like me to answer? Just ask me ^_^

I would get 1 gallon bottles of water, because it's much easier to deal with. Also, a kiddie pool works well for grey water. Check out this link for other grey water options. http://www.burningman.com/preparation/e ... water.html

As for gifts, I would bring whatever you want to share with others. Drinks, necklaces, lighters, kazoos, smoked salmon, these are all gifts I have received out on the Playa.

Don't worry about gifts your first year. Pitching in and helping, picking up trash and such acts, a little volunteering, that's enough of a gift the first time out.

There is a good sticky thread in the Q&A forum about how to deal with greywater. We use a small evap pan, then pour anything left over in jugs to pack out. The trick is to not generate too much greywater in the first place, minimizing washing up and showers.

We carry our water in a couple five gallon jugs, several 2.5 "suitcases" and even a few gallon jugs. We rely on ice melt from our coolers to boil for washing dishes, and don't take regular showers, just minimal garden mister showers. YMMV, some people are willing to do the work to set up a shower and evap system,we are not. Water is heavy, roughly 8 lbs. per gallon. The five gallon jugs are available (empty) at grocery stores. We have had 20 gal and 55 gal before, a bitch to pump out and almost impossible to move once full.

We never use up all our water.

Washing dishes? Depends on how much cooking you want to do, and how much of a mess you must clean up daily. You do need to clean up your food prep area each time, it gets nasty-dusty otherwise. We go with minimal prep, other campers prefer real meals.

Gallon jugs are the only thing that keeps my tent on the ground.

garden sprayer is a great multipurpose item. I got a small one, about a quart volume, around 6 bucks. mist cools you down, and rinses items with minimal water usage. Here's my dishwashing set up. funnel with aquarium filter floss perched into top of an empty 5 gallon water container. use small ammount of water and soap, scrub pot dish, transfer soapy water to next dirty dish... pour out wash water into funnel, spray empty soapy dishes clean of soap over funnel, or in a basin. grey water down the funnel. filter floss goes into a mesh bag or bucket, dries, shake and reuse, or it becomes dry trash. Last year I didn't do any evaporation, and came back with less than 3 gallons of grey water.

Just leave your clothes on then.

Partial nudity attracts more attention really though.

nude public showering is not mandatory. washcloth bath in tent works fine.
