I am trying to find the "straight to it" resource for obtaining a last minute handicap vehicle permit for my partner. He has had a set back w/his knee and ankle. We're concerned he may have to forfeit this year due to the pain. He is a burner of 8 yrs and I would hate to miss this year with him since it is he who open me to this wonderful world. To even think about going without him is unspeakable. If you know of the fastest most direct contact for getting this permit for him. You'd be making a poor man's christmas. Thank you for anyone who looks into this and for whomever has the link we're looking for. Not to mention he has an almost finished art car that he and his buddy are working on and have been devoted to it's completion. However due to his injury they have lost some work time, but with love his friends are motivated to finish it for him if there's incentive.
Meaning they don't want it to be a lost cause and would make it fully possible if they knew it had proper approval a.k.a. "A Permit!" He is a deserving person, and I want so much for him to see his project born for what it was intended for. Again thank you for your help!

If you have an "almost finished" art car, that means that it has a permit as a mutant vehicle because the date of your post is LONG past the date the mutant vehicle permit process closed. Right?????
So your buddies finish it and you bring it in as an art car, since you have that elusive mutant vehicle provisional permit. Be safe though and get his doctor to fill out the form for a temporary disability plackard, take it to your local DMV and they will give you the temporary state "door hanger" placard and a printout enabling only him to use it.
If I were you, I would e-mail the DMV hotties a copy of this documentation just to help show that you are not trying to bring in a mutant vehicle that either was too late and missed the registration deadline or did not meet the requirements for bringing to the playa as a mutant vehicle.

it will be damn hard to get a late one.
Correct, Unjon - and pretty much my point. They will find it very suspicious if a newly disabled person already has a mutant vehicle that does NOT already have a provisional permit. But I understand that it could happen - I have an MV that we have long planned NOT to bring this year, so if I got hurt tomorrow, I would be scrambling to get it approved if possible....
I would think the DMV has seen a lot of attempts to sneak in an otherwise unacceptable MV as a disabled vehicle.
