First Burn! I want to contribute! Any suggestions?

Post by Minne MicHeLLe » Tue Aug 18, 2009 10:49 am

Hello!
Well this is going to be my first burn. I live in Denver. I just decided it was time to uproot myself and start my life over, and I couldnt think of a better place to start than Burning Man. Im quitting my job, heading out there knowing pretty much noone, and Im just gonna wing it.

I really want to contribute to the community, but I have limited funds and not much space to bring many good gifts and the last thing I want to do is bring crappy stuff that is just going to end up as trash.

I am trying to find a way to volunteer for the city or for a camp so that I can contribute that way. I dont have a camp set out yet, but I am very artistic, creative, and a very quick learner. If anyone knows of a way that I could contribute to a camp please let me know!

See ya on the pLaya!

Lamplighters are supposed to be a good gig.

How's your barbarian wench presentation?

A little groveling goes a long way, you know. I'm talking about lamplighters of course. ;)

Hi Minne MicHeLLe. I just want to say that I like the way you walk into a room. It is refreshing to meet a first year burner that seeks first to contribute. Whatever camp you find is lucky to have you. As it would happen, I'll be meeting up with some female wonders like yourself that are also from Denver and I'll introduce you if the opportunity presents. Look me up at Robotronia camp inside the 3:00 plaza. My Burning Man art is at www.MutantVehicle.com .

Cheers,

Jellyfish.

Usually I'm the Bad Advise Fairy, but this time I'll be locking the barn door fairy.

You quit your job in this economy and you have limited funds?

Hey, boys and girls, can we give this woman some addresses of local bridges?

Your very beautiful self will be a great gift to the city (and everyone in it). Black Rock City can always use some help, if you don't find the answers here there will be ways to find out on the Playa how to contribute.

Plus if you just keep your eyes open for ways to contribute- you won't be able to miss them.

I'd suggest you focus on bringing what you need to address the elements, and then your good spirit (which I'm happy to say I've seen a glimpse of) and it'll all work out perfectly!

I'll touch base again as my plans get clear. Nice to have met you, and I'm SO excited you've chosen to come to Black Rock City this year!! I can't wait to hear what you think!!

Gotta run,
SuperCraig

Short of volunteering, like others have said, let yourself be the contribution artwise. You won't feel guilty spectating if you're a spectacle yourself (or help create one)

as an aside, I think the greeters will still spank virgins if you ask nicely and sign 20 waivers ^^

Yes, the meat must be tenderized before it's thrown in the stew pot.
I don't have a license, but clever fingers. Do stop by.
Don't worry about the double-bitted axe, that's only if you won't relax. ;)

Surviving your first burn unscathed and not a burden on your fellow burners would be a great gift to contribute :D

You could also try volunteering at Artica, or consider delivering the Black Rock Beacon. Both should prove to be a good way to meet peeps.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

If you survive the burn with both arms, then you have achieved much for your species. Kudos!

Wow! Thanks everyone for all of your tips and suggestions! I really appreciate it!
I am now even more excited to get there now that I see how kick ass the people who attend are!
I am leaving in a few hours actually, and I will be camping in Minnecampolis at 4:30 and B if anyone wants to stop by and say hello! I'd be glad to meet you guys!

Now it has simply come down to a matter of getting tickets, I was told that you could get them online for $300 and pick them up at will call until Sept 1st and I just went to do that and they said they arent selling them anymore, LAME!
If anyone has any suggestions that would be great, if not I guess Ill just get them at the gate.
If someone happens to have one and is unable to attend or something I'd love to take it off your hands for ya! Ill be leaving so it'd be best to just call me if you have any ideas, (763) 300-2459

Thanks again everyone! See ya on the playa!
