Going solo this year.
Going solo this year.
Hello ePlaya! I joined up last year, but never introduced myself, so here I am!
I'm very excited. Last year was my first year. I went up just for the four day weekend. I went alone and was unprepared. Luckily I met a bunch of good people who gifted me goggles and a hat and a bunch of other things.
This year I was going to bring two friends, but they both backed out and now I'm planning solo again. Which is fine by me! I'm really looking forward to the whole thing. I'm going for the whole week this time!
I've built a dome and I bought a hat and el wire and a camelback and buckets and vinegar. And I'm actually going to attempt cooking! Actually it will be more like heating up canned food. I even had the foresight this year to bring a can opener! Yay me!
I still kinda feel unprepared, because I'm trying new things, especially with the dome instead of a tent. Right now it is set up in my backyard, so I know it fits together, I'm just having issues with the tarp I'm using to cover the thing, too long one way, too short another way. At this point I'm just gonna have to do the best with what Ive got, because funds have run out! I'm sure Ill figure something out!
Just a couple more weeks! See ya there! :)

Hello Chiwa,
You are a wonderful example of Radical Self-Reliance that I admire soooooo much on the Playa. Flex your ingenuity. Make that tarp do what you want it to. Modify the dome a little if needed. Try to make do with discarded/used/free stuff. This is the ultimate re-cycling/re-purposing event. I start looking for what folks toss out in front of their houses in San Francisco. Also, be sure to ask around for free tarps.

homo sum, nihil humani a me alienum est, puto...
Thank you!
I have been collecting things since I got back from the playa last year! No worries! As long as the whole setup doesn't blow away, it can't be worse than last year. I didn't think to put the rainfly on, cause I usually don't when camping, and I got a couple of inches of playa dust layering everything in my little tent. I'm prepared for to sleep in a blanket of dust this year!
