1st time round, long time bound

Post by BehindTheWheel » Wed Aug 19, 2009 10:38 pm

Hi ALL,

I've been wanting to go to this (and getting forceful encouragement from many if not all of my friends for a decade) however Id not had an opportunity to be a part of a camp that I could really contribute to and collaborate with until this year - SO STOKED - I guess I saw myself being bored as a spectator for a week but Im sure I would have found myself occupied quickly enough..... anyhow enough excuses for me! We're heading up on the 28th and will be running a playa micro-bus service called PUNI (spinoff on SF's MUNI) with 3 fully electric microbusses, tricked out a bit with cozy open beds on the back, sound lights, bus to bus comm, fire (on one or two... still working that out) and bus stops to distribute which may get moved around a bit and alter our course over the week. ahem. thats the plan anyway. Looking forward to being in it!

ooh boyo - the PUNI trucks are shaping up.... will still have to do some light work on the playa though

Im guessing, for projects, it's best to stay away from the following out there:

any tools needing more power than you have
adhesives
sanding grinding drilling
working with sail-like things

anything else?

thx-

at risk of asking the obvious - do you have permission to run your buses? The mutant vehicle permitting process to drive anything about on the playa has a reputation for being pretty heinous. Your project sounds great, I'd hate for you to have to leave your buses in the impound lot all week.

I hope to ride the PUNI!

Absolutely... I was a little concerned about that but there are some seasoned burners amongst us and apparently its all been handled with DMV. At the worst we may be at the gate for a few hours but Im looking forward to milling about aimlessly for a while so even that is a welcome event and a perfect way to slooooow my roll. Not sure about the 5mph speed limit tho that might be a bit heavy handed

PUNI takes all riders!!!! we can load 3000lbs and tow 10000 with little more footprint than a golf cart, so feel free to climb with 60 of your closest friends!

Hope you're around when my partner has to lug her conga to the various places. It would be swell to have a ride, even part way. What a great project. Hope we can use it.
