Parachute Shade Structure

I've built a 50' diameter parachute shade structure with a 64' parachute that has a large 2' hole in the top. To reduce billowing and stress on the tie downs, I know that I need to cut it. I'm looking for advice as to whether I should cut moon slits (smileys) or actual holes? The last one I took part it, we just made horizontal slits because we were out there with no option but I have a hole cutter now. I'm just afraid that entire holes might let too much dust in. Opinions? Thanks all!

Do you have pictures from when you set it up to test it out?

The dust will always get in. The slits will allow air flow and reduce the chances of ripping, a bit. I've noticed that holes tend to expand. Least they did with our old, old parachute, (which we are still using with some help from a needle and thread.)
