Do the Empire Store threads Violate the TOS

Post by Sail Man » Sat Aug 22, 2009 4:27 pm

I've been following this saga since pretty much the git go. Reading both here and on tribe as many people, Lonestoner comes to mind as an early provider of assistance, have stepped forward to help get the Empire store back open. Not just for the Burner community who of course will provide a huge influx of business and needed cash, but also for the people who call the Empire/Gerlach area their home. And to that end I see it as a vital resource. I've never personally looked at any of the posts by MKD as advertising, more to the point of replying to questions asked, updates on the status of the store, and very valid requests of what he should stock. But I do see how it could all be construed as "advertising". I just dont buy into that vein though, as it doesnt appear that any other biz in the general area has experienced such an upheavel in the last year.

I am aware that Wedeliver has made not only offers and info available about his CG, but also of a job opportunity there. I've never felt that it violated the TOS either. He has a weblink available for anybody to peruse and get the skinny on his place. Cool. Maybe the Empire Store could do the same thing after the burn, and get it posted in the resource guide.

Anyway, before the thoughts start hitting the fan, let me cover myself with a sheet of plastic before y'all whip out the Sledgeamatics.
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

I agree

heres my story

In 2006 we had maybe 30 people come to my park on their way to brc
In 2007 maybe 75 or so
In 2008 we think a bit over 200 we think
In 2009.. my gift. I offer FREE, WITHOUT CHARGE OR OBLIGATION. Camping, water, showers and toilets, MY GIFT!

We only ask that you "leave no trace" clean up after yourselves and drive slowly past my neighbors here in Tionesta.

Lets see the Empire Store match that offer! :) Now, I have never tried to advertise regular camping here at eplaya, as a matter of fact, if you read my past posts, I have said that all year round, tell me you are a burner...camp free! Last year the "March Forth Marching Band" came here, I was gone at the time, but my daughter who was manageing the park charged the group of 40 people 40 dollars, If I had an address I would send it back to them. I just wish I had been here to meet them all.

If you look through the posts you will see I have not been negative about the store's posting till recently, when the info became not that the store was open and ready, but what kind of beer and how much beer and bumper stickers that say burning man is brought to you by hammms. (we already know that those artists are hamms.)

So the man was happy that a burner gave him a PBR sticker, and he put it on the front door. BFD.

OP, why do you drag this up? The moderators have no problem with it. Do we really need another thread on it? I hear there is a lot of rumor and bullshit on tribe, let's leave it on tribe, m'kay?

And why all the hate lately? Here, drink some water and sit in the shade awhile. There ya go. :)

The folks at the Empire Store have worked long and hard to make a successful business. I give them lots of credit, for all the upgrades and changes, impovements to the store and gas station. I wish them the best and I hope their efforts bring them what it is they are looking for. I hold no bad feelings towards them at all.

If anything I am probably jealous. Go figure?

I post all the time here. I am involved in many discussions and I recently went on playa took some pictures, reported my observations..etc..

I guess the difference is, I'm a burner. I love to burn, now lets "save the man" cause fire is hot, don't ja know.

(one of those burners you can love to hate, opinionated, can't spell, bad grammar, and I learned recently in another thread, that being over 55 which is the end of middle age, that I am a renaissance man, (that came after the middle ages, didn't it?)

All depends on the thread and were it's leading to.

I wouldn't want to ban the threads that warn people about the frauds they commited in the past or any business that isn't Burner friendly. I do not welcome the threads that are forms of advertising.

That's what we have Tribe for!

is it any different, warning about fraud or cheating, etc......than to point out "burner friendly" and helpful, affordable, etc?

I think that's already been answered. I guess the question is why or why not is it different to ygmir?

to me, they are the same.
and, used as helpful advice, not overplayed, and, posted by others, including the proprietor, acceptable as such.

offers of advise and help are good.
blatant adds and scams, not so good.....IMHO.....

OG, I didnt have to drag this up. It was happening live. Not memorex. Had I simply said my piece in the current thread, would you have found that to be ok? I am fully aware of what Anti-M said in reference to Debs request to lock the original thread. I threw up the poll, rather tongue in cheek, to see what the masses really thought about the issue. I fail to see where my opinion can be construed as rumor, and/or bullshit. No more then any of the other posters. Please enlighten me to which part of my post constitutes a rumor, m'kay?

I have watched this play out both here, and on Tribe.

I dont recall seeing MKD post the prices of the products he has asked us to recommend he stock for the burn.

Thank you Sailman for clarifying your question. The poll speaks for itself. It seems obvious that the threads in question do not violate the TOS. Only two people out of twelve believed there was wrongdoing. The jury is in.

WeDeliver, I also applaud the efforts of the new store management. Secondhand reports about the negative and false actions in Tribe are apparanly just rumors. Firsthand reports in the other various threads on Eplaya show the store is back and running strong with new staff. The new management are not the persons that created the problems in the past.

Some people always seem to go to the negetive and the paranoid opinion, I quess.I have never been on Tribe. My dad used to call negative people "shit-stirrers", who always raise a stink wherever they go. I always take people on their word till I know otherwise. I refuse to become cynical in my dotage. I am glad we have cleared that up. Let's just let the past go, and evolve allready. Can we party now?

I've got my clean socks on now. I can't stand dirty socks. You all know what dirty socks I'm talking about, don't you? I recommend all the dirty socks out there get cleaned up.

"If the shoe fits, wear it." OK, there it is, my old man platitude of the day.
