Hey, they spend lots on money on those high tech budgets and need to show the results!

And yes, I do believe those people were pulled over still on the entrance road!

I think I read where six people were busted at Burining Man last year......Considering what I saw that was not exactly a major crackdown. :D The truth is just be a little discreet and you'll be okay.

Now, on the way up and on the way back, Cop are swarming all over those highways. They are mainly looking for drunk/high drivers and speeders. That's probably a good thing. It a dangerous road and it's a good idea to take it easy.

Zeus enjoys being parinoid. Don't bust his bubble. In fact, if you could direct him to 'Foil Hat Camp' that would be good...

Foil hat hell. That gut needs to be wrapped like a baked potato and tossed in a burn barrel.

Whenyou read the actual police reports and the unbiased descriptions of arrests and citations by other people, you quickly realize that 99% of arrests and citations are for obvious things.

Smoking pot where LEO can see it or smell it.
Driving (inside BRC to camp) with open beer in hand.
Gifting drugs to an undercover cop.
Gifting alcohol to a minor in the presence of an undercover cop.
Gifting phamacuticals in the presence of an undercover cop.
Assuming darkness was adequate cover for drug use.

As long as LEO has all these easy targets they do not have to waste time with 'gps tracking devices' and such.

For those of you who 'need' illegal drugs to have fun. A little common sense will go a long way.

Thematically speaking, let the LEO's ( lions ) thin the herd of the weak and stupid. It will make our pack stonger. This is the land of the wolfpack, go Wolfpack.

Some but I'm not up for a critique of my sources.
How about we hear about your take on risks and police action on the playa?

Isn't the goal here to inform the masses?

To make people smarter about the risks?

my take?

that a growing leo presence was inevitible with the org managements approach. that as the amount of commercial revenue increases, there will be a greater rate of leo presence increase and associated costs.

that the blm requirements are more than sufficiant reason for the org to support all of it, despite the nature of the event and the people attending, and despite the history and intent of the brc rangers. that supporting it would further diminish people's motivations for self-moderation and control and help escalate much of the negative attributes of public narcotic use.

Well,
I agree that BM is growing and that there is an increase in police activity as a result. But (and I am guessing here) I bet that on a per capita basis the number of cops is actually down, or at most, flat.

Your other point, if I understand you, is that more police actually cause more drug use by causing people to not self moderate (false sense of security issue).

Maybe. Interesting idea.

One thing I would expect is that there is a lot more use of pharmacuticals and ingestibles - drugs that do not require paraphenalia or burning (pot) for use.

Bottom line is that people should be careful. Not using drugs at BM is probably the best option. Save it for use at home. All the risks of use at BM with the added risks of getting stopped on one of the local reservations.

Then there is the problem of getting f'd up in a harsh environment. Who want's to throw up in a porta pottie? Or worse in your own tent? Who want's to be all sick in an oven-like tent during the day?

Who's got your back?

All my personal opinion of course. People can and will use everything at BM just like any festival. I just hope they are rational about the risks.

guessing myself on observations, but that was based on an leo increase during the revenue increase from late 90's, and agree that its relatively flat - but thats because of the blm population limits and budgeting conflicts once law enforcement groups realized they hit the limit for how much funding they could expect.
Your other point, if I understand you, is that more police actually cause more drug use by causing people to not self moderate (false sense of security issue).
sorta, but also that emergency, city, and community services in general also provides the expectation that certain help can be relied on. ptf (pre-trash fence) people seemed more self-reliant and safe once its in thier heads they are mostly on thier own, includiung a corresponding greater appreciation to certain dangers of narcotic use.

I doubt you would lie about getting busted. Bummer.

Don't you think a civil discussion about the risks might help a few other burners from getting busted?

Igneous, can't you tell i'm a very sensitive person, especially when it comes to my foil hat!

And I don't want anyone getting busted right at the gate from reeking or having your playa bong out in view! I would at least want you to experience a few days before they do.

Are we civil on that!

you know, the hat!

bet you haven't seen the price on foil these days!
