A few years back I was walking the playa late at night, late in the week and encountered this very cool little installation, raised fire pit, three neat tent structures, a pile of wood delivered. Well, the art was the tent structures, the fire pit was one of those elevated copper things you can get at target. I don't think I would knowingly ejaculate on someone's art. Alright, the serious answer is this: any type of sex in public is not alright. Solo or with a partner. It does happen and it seems to be tolerated if extremely discreet. If you feel moved so much as to wank on someone's art, I hope they don't spot you and get offended over it.

Unless you were beyond 100% positive you were alone, then and for however long you'd need, and you were 100% and the people whom's space/fire you were at/ejaculating would not mind such a thing, what you did was not OK.

As with many other questions, this comes down to what's consensual. You doing your thing on the deep playa is basically consensual, unless people can see you and/or you leave any sort of a mess - which would then be non-consensual for the people who encounter you/it. I think the answer to my question is that I took an inappropriate risk of impacting the sensibilities of those around me should they have discovered me. True enough.

I regret using the term "whip it out" because it really wasn't like that, and yes, I could have stopped myself. It was more the spontaneous expression in a magical moment that you describe, but of course, more taboo, even out there, and back then, when it was a much smaller event. Haven't done anything like that since, and now won't again. Besides, things can't be duplicated.
