best way to get long pvc to the playa via a roofrack
I got a jeep, its got a roof rack, I'll probably have 10ft pvc I want to bring with me - any idea how to tie that down?

I haul quite a few 10 lengths of 2" pvc on top of my jeep. I bundle them together into groups of three making a triangle and then tape the ends. I stack them accross the roof rack and put my shad cloth bundles on top of them securing the whole thing with a pair of cargo straps like these: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/d ... mber=90984
I run the cargo straps so that they make an X accross the roof. It doesn't budge once the straps are tightened down.
I did this last year with about 30 pieces and had no issues. Doing about 60 this year over two trips. One thing that I learned was that doing this really changes the center of gravity on the vehicle making the drive a bit akward at first.

We secured our whip antennas with a hook and 2 twine lines in a V shape to the front bumper of our army jeeps. Long poles and even canoes can be tied fore and aft. You could lash your poles together with clothesline like a raft.
My grandad tied his bamboo surffishing poles to the door handles on the passenger side of his "hupmobile". But today's edsels have recessed handles, and integrated bodymold bumpers.
