arriving late
arriving late
My friend and I are arriving on Friday before the burn. we have tickets and a trailer but no camp affiliation, do I just park in the middle of the desert and walk in?
We are pretty self suffient and have bikes. Social people but new to the game, any help would be welcome.

There's walk in camping where that is the case, and there's shoehorning your way into an available space in the city proper.

As mentioned above: tell the greeters what your situation is and they will direct.wigvezu wrote:My friend and I are arriving on Friday before the burn. we have tickets and a trailer but no camp affiliation, do I just park in the middle of the desert and walk in?

You mentioned a trailer. That means walk in camping is not available.
Go to the web site and look at the map for 2009. Familiarize yourself with the outlying areas of BRC. That will give you an idea what to expect.
It is possible that you are thinking that you will camp outside BRC and walk in (one way to read your post). This will not work. If you are involved with BM you must be inside the fence. The BLM closes the surrounding desert to all activities during BM. Also, BM makes repeated entry and exit a pain. They charge extra for that...

A word of warning (you may know this but I'll say it anyway). Burning Man is not for spectators. If you think you are gonna show up and gawk you will discover that you are not invited to any of the really cool stuff. You may even get rude treatment from some camps.
When you show up the first thing you should do is figure out how to get involved and help out. Self reliance includes figuring out how to be part of making BM happen.
People are particularly suspicious of folks that show up at the last minute without art, costumes, swag, affiliation with a theme camp....etc
You get the point. You don't want to be classified as a yahoo.

Igneouss,
Thanks for that advice. We are actually coming to help out at the Medical Center as EMTs and GoFers. We have been, just today, invited to join a camp with them. However I was not sure, at that late a date, there would be space for us, plus I did not know if everyone would be ticked that we were driving a truck and trailer through to the middle of the playa on the second to last day and I did not want to intrude on everyone's fun.
I was wondering if it it is easy enough just to park on the outskirts and bike in so all of you who have spent a week taking over the place do not have to put up with people like me who barge in at the last minute.
Is there anything (like fresh fruit, etc.) that is in short supply by the end of the week? I can stock up and hand it out.

Thanks Barbie, We are heading left... If you can get a message out, let us know if we can re-supply you with something.
