Marriages that open as blossoms in sunshine

Post by en_pointe » Thu Aug 27, 2009 4:55 pm

Curious: Is it common, or at least not uncommon, for married couples to attend BMan and take the week off, basically act like singles while they're there, then regroup (full of welcoming smiles one hopes) at the end of the event?

The risks are obvious. But I imagine there are always some folks who find it a useful opportunity for a variety of reasons.

Circumstances (e.g., whiteouts) have caused me to be stuck next to a few couples exasperatedly arguing over their open relationship rules and regulations during the week. Most couples want to keep checking in with each other. As for trying out open relationships in general, I'd say it's not uncommon, but perhaps there are relatively few couples who have very happy open relationships. Usually it seems one or the other is feeling a bit upset or slighted about something that's going on. Any relationship takes a lot of work; open relationships take a lot more.

I understand there are more couples at the beginning of the event and more singles at the end.

Personally I see it as an opportunity.

Frankly, if you can't make an open relationship work off the playa it is risky (at best) to attempt to make it work on the playa.

You are asking this crowd that question?
Desert dogs drink deep.
