This is the worst possible thing that could happen to this event. I hope that there is no signal on the playa and some reports say that the tower does not reach---others say that there is a full signal there.

Yes, we can put our phones away and not use them---but you know what will happen. I'm sure I will be one of the offenders checking in and calling the office. I will do my calling in the privacy of my own tent.

The first time I see some frat boy in his Birkenstocks talking loudly on his cell phone for all to hear, I swear I will fip out on him.

This whole things sucks worse than anything I have ever seen before.

the signal is there. it covers, tho its weak. the good news is, it can only carry about 50 calls at a time, so it's already virtually useless.

This is like saying after the invention of the sword that you dont have to use it. I mean sure its an option but your likely to just get ear raped with a piece of metal instead. As for the emergency arguement, satellite phones have been available on the playa for years now for just such things.

From what I've heard the signal is strong but only 35 to 70 user can use it at the same time. You can't text or get email. So with 50,000 people on the playa, I'm sure most people with phones will eventually give up.

Uggghhh! I guess my last vestage of freedom from the cell phone tether is gone and gone forever.
I still say that it will be so different when people are using their cell phones to meet up. Phones will be ringing everwhere and all the calls will be so important, just like in the default world.
There have been phones on the playa before, but this is going to be different. Stay tuned!
