I was going to delete the post and simply cut-and-paste it with corrections. The delete button wouldn't work because "The post has been replied to".

Kelly, Stuart- do you honestly consider me a 'fundie'? If so, is it solely for my view on guns/gun control?

I don't know enough about your religious convictions to judge that. BTW, I was asking those questions in my previous post in earnest. I am enlightened by the responses. Thanks.

I think your current avatar would suggest anything but.

Yer welcome. I just seen the word "fundie" floating around and I was honestly wondering if the context was encompassing gun folks. If I appear a rabid NRA member, while I am an NRA member- I find some of their techniques about as bad as the anti-gun folks. I don't personally believe in hunting, as we have breed herd animals into stupidity- might as well eat the idiots we've created than eat something with a possibility of surviving in the wild.

I believe more in an armed populace as a possible deterant for a self-interest centered government. While our governement seems, at this time, to be somewhat stable and permenant- no government has stood the test of time. I also believe in the right of an individual to possess a vehicle of overwhelming and deadly force- as I have seen the results first-hand of friends and relatives meeting brutality at the hands of others that they cannot defend against. Large psychotic people have a tendancy to ignore restraining orders, knifes, and large sticks. A pistol can make the difference between a dead/permenantly disabled relative/friend and a live, healthy one.

As to religious beliefs- dad was Catholic, mom was Baptist. Spent a couple years in Catholic school. So yes, I am an atheist. Less of a 'you're all wrong' atheist and more of a 'whatever floats your boat' atheist.

And Badger- what do you mean? That was my Catholic school uniform. At least the collar and chain.

Hey Rob,

No, I wasn't thinking of you at all when I was talking about fundamentalists. I strongly disagree with you, but that's about it.

I have a question for you though: coming from a pro-gun perspective, do you think that there are folks on your side of this issue who take it too far, and would fall into that kind of fundie mentality I was describing?

Oh, and I think the hat really makes the outfit.

Ab-so-fucking-lutely. Then again, anytime someone is vehelemantly for/against something- yet can't articulate exactly why- I close my ears and wince. The statement "cause its our RIGHT!" bugs me. Knowledge of the reasons behind the right is essential. Same with folks that own a gun- yet never take the time out to understand how it works, become proficient, and respect the weapon as the deadly instrument it is.

Obviously there is the other side of the coin. "Guns kill babies- so we need to outlaw them." statements without checking out the stats of firearms protecting a individual from harm. With both sides trying to slant their individual data, and a largely anti-gun media, it's hard to tell who exactly is telling the truth.

But if you don't try to dig for data on both sides of the fence, the hole on one side will eventually make the fence land on your head.

And you gotta have a good hat to make the outfit.
