Deodorant that DOESN'T Melt?
Yes...Sweating is great. The part that you're missing though is that sweat doesn't do SHIT to cool you on the Playa (except for when you take off your hat under a shady place). As those who have been know, sweat generally evaporates so quickly on the Playa that you don't even realize you're sweating...Which is just the thing that makes so many burners so dangerously dehydrated (or if not so 'dangerously', only that it makes them lethargic and gives them headaches).
So yes...Drink your shit-ton of water, then drink more, then sweat or piss it all out, don't notice the sweat, and when you're eventually smelling like ass, stay the fuck away from me, please...At least while I'm eating. Thank you : )

why why oh why would you bother with deoderant???
That makes about as much sense as wearing deoderant or make up to bikram yoga. Your gonna sweat. Its good for you! Its your bodies natural air conditioning.
Isn't deodorant something different altogether from anti-perspirant?
Ok, so why would you bother with anti-perspirant? Deoderant? Cologne? All seems silly in the desert.

Don't listen to this crap. Seize your own information source and make up your own mind. Start here:DrPeffer wrote:Yes...Sweating is great. http://health.howstuffworks.com/water-intoxication.htm
In cases of water intoxication, it is extreme hyponatremia that can ultimately cause coma and death. If it's caught early, treatment with IV fluids containing electrolytes can lead to a complete recovery; but untreated, hyponatremia is fatal. Water intoxication is basically one form of hyponatremia -- the condition can also be caused by excessive sweating, severe burns, prolonged dehydration and certain liver and kidney problems, among other diseases and conditions.

I wouldn't touch anti-persirent, you sweat for damn good reasons. Never wear cologne. I like the cathedral, though. Insence makes my nose crawl. *shudder* For whatever reason, I have my father's sweat glands--no deoderant is not an option.lexann77 wrote:Da Mule wrote:Isn't deodorant something different altogether from anti-perspirant?lexann77 wrote:why why oh why would you bother with deoderant???

Well that's a good point, I was half asleep when I posted that. In my own defense, I've used antipersperant on the playa and it seemed to work well enough, and didn't melt all over the place. That might not work for everyone. Some people swear by those deodorant rocks, but I've never tried them.theCryptofishist wrote: I wouldn't touch anti-persirent, you sweat for damn good reasons.
I do swear by the little body spray "bullets," which are teeny little cans of body spray that are the size of a mini-sharpie. As to the point of smelling nice in the desert, smelling nice can be an ice breaker in and of itself. Further, consider that some burners are so stank ass that it can double as a portable air freshener and/or its always better to offer to gift someone a spray instead of telling them they stink to high heaven ("someone gifted this to me, do you want me to give you a spray, it smells real nice...that's right big boy, let's get you all over").
