So who got hurt this year?

Anything serious this year or not so serious but funny?
I heard that the slide was responsible for a couple broken bones and the dome with the crash pad had a participant that broke their femur.

The Slide
I think the official injury count for the slide was 50+? It was hilarious to watch the people at night, if you have ever seen penguins pushing eachother into the water to check for predators you know what im talking about. Drunk girls flying down 5 at a time smashing into eachother at the bottom faster than they could replace the squishy cubes.

The slide was awesome! Too many people were coming off it bloody, I decided to be the official photographer for our group! LOL! I was already scraped up from missing my pedal the night before (still feeling that one).Kenny Z wrote:Slide got me pretty good all over my body.
Best thing I saw was a naked guy chasing after the water truck and did a total sliding faceplant once he hit the mud, friggen funny stuff!
Only his pride was bruised.

I twisted my ankle fighting in the dome on Friday night but recovered several days later. I wondering how many injuries are discovered the day after when the adrenaline wears off. The friend I fought woke up with a dried blood from his nose and a bad bruise his chest the following morning from our fight.
Oh, I also worked with someone last week who's wife was given a third degree burn on her face by the GigsVille Car-B-Que when a canister that was thrown in the fire exploded and shrapnel hit her in the face.
It reminded me of the woman who posted a year or so ago about a piece of a canister that flew out of a fire pit and hit her in the eye and caused blindness and perpetual migraines. Three nights before I saw them throwing canisters of spray oil and other aerosol type cans in. I jetted after remembering the woman who had lost her sight. Glad I didn't stick around. It's too bad people don't put more thought into what they toss into fires. Explosions are fun to watch but not as fun when you loose your eye sight or scorch your body over it IMHO

Friday noon there was a skydiving accident when someone's shute did not open all the way.
I didn't see the fall, but I saw a few ambulances, cops, rangers, sheriffs.... probably everyone was there.
I saw the diver walking to the ambulance by himself, so must not have been serious
There was a word about a second diver at the same time, but I know nothing about it

I smacked myself with my bo staff (an adversary could not have aimed a better blow than I gave myself) - no discernable fractures but the bruises are magnificent! No doubt the result of being very rusty combined with copious amounts of tequila......

If this was the dome at ~7:00 with the blacklight paint and blacklight array, we saw people climbing and hanging of of the top by their legs as we were biking out to deep playa. I jokingly said to my wife that we should wait a second to see the first person gack. Unfortunately, a few hours later as we were riding back to camp the scene was illuminated with ambulance lights and EMTs hard at work on a guy who fell from the very top... he tried to land on the mat but missed, and seemed to be horribly thrashed. If he only broke his femur he is lucky because we were thinking serious head/neck/back injury and/or death. Hope someone can confirm that he lived (!).AntiM wrote:Genius says there was a dome which had gym mats and folks were climbing up and jumping. One guy missed the mats and shattered his femur. yikes.

separated shoulder
Mark Leigh of the Petting Zoo separated his shoulder when his bicycle chain broke. He's now lopsided and has a big bone sticking up on top of his shoulder.
He was in so much pain at BM that he left the playa, and on the way got popped at a speed trap, thrown in jail for "trafficking" (had one percoset in his pocket a friend had given him) and denied any meds, not even aspirin. He's now looking at a felony charge and jailtime.
Know any good lawyers?

Hmm, I was camped next to the car-b-que this year and didn't see or hear about this incident. Did it occur this year or in a prior year?DoriumLux wrote:Oh, I also worked with someone last week who's wife was given a third degree burn on her face by the GigsVille Car-B-Que when a canister that was thrown in the fire exploded and shrapnel hit her in the face.
BTW, there's a reason folks yell and listen for "Fire In the Hole" around the car-b-que. Gigs plays hard but they also attempt to alert those around them when they toss stuff in to the 'cue. If you hear it, take it seriously.
There's also a reason that there is a very large clear space around the car-b-que. I was extremely amused when some clueless newbies begged to camp there during the Sunday night land rush. "But dudes, you've got tons of space we can just squeeze our (brand new clearly rented luxury) RV right there..." They were firmly chased out before Darwin got their butts.

Broken femur
I broke my femur at the dome this year, got a ride by helicopter to reno for surgery. I got a rod put in my leg with screws holding in place. The fall didnt hurt at all, probably looked horrible and I feel very lucky to even be alive. No other injuries and I even made it back friday night so I didnt miss the burn and left monday. I started a blog to show my recovery.
