Are we more "Gift'y" than the rest of the populati

Post by RebA! » Thu Sep 18, 2003 8:32 am

I was thinking about gifts this morning, not the ones I received at burning man, but the ones that I sent out during the year to my friends.

I was thinking back and just contemplating just how many dozen cookies got shipped out, just because people are my friends. They didnt ask for them. I just decided to do it, just because.

I know I wasnt always this way. A change for the better? Yea probably.

No life on earth survives without something you might call a gift economy, which makes it seem ridiculous as an event theme, rubric, or whatever.

I was was wide awake an hour before sunrise this morning on a ranch in Nevada -- and felt it was a truly fortunate gift that the geese flying overhead in the dim purple light didn't circle around and peck me to death.

I can tell you that I don't give a ton of gifts or anything (moneymoneymoney) but I am an infamous snailmailer amongst my friends. I am constantly sending little notes and cards to everyone I know and have met in the various places I've lived. I think it's in the same spirit you're referring to.

The best gifts come from the heart.
It took me many years to find a way to be of service.
And in a way just being allowed to do what I do is a gift to me.
It has a very deep meaning for both them and me.
