Gerlach-I80,Stoped? How many cops

Post by unjonharley » Sun Sep 13, 2009 4:39 pm

Some input please..

Were you stoped between Gerlach and Reno??

How many police cars did you see??

Was your car legal??

Were your windows and head light clean??

Were you speeding or any other improper driving acts??

Are you into telling wild story about the police??

During the exudous I saw three Washoe County S.O.'s in Empire with customers. The officers appeared to be writing love letters to each driver. Saw one NHP and one Washoe County S.O. on the rubber as well. Was getting ready to turn off hwy 50 into my neighborhood and saw a Lyon County S.O.

I left on Monday around 10 or 11 am and saw only a handful of cops - perhaps 10 between BRC and Reno. At most one was writing a ticket. They were mostly patrolling watching for accidents.

I did see one NV cop on I-80 just before the CA state line waiting to write "thank you come again" tickets.

I think the posts about cops on the roads are overblown. Keep in mind, it's about 70-80 miles, you'll see cops and tickets being written on any given 80 miles of highway.

Biggest problem I saw was overloaded burner vehicles that couldn't do the limit - which is not itself a problem - but other vehicles would stay too close behind them, making a safe pass very difficult because there was no space to pull into without passing the entire "peloton" (to borrow a cycling term) at once.

Going there, Sunday aft., just past Reno, a black and white was driving in my blind spot for about 5 miles. Near an exit he pulled behind me and turned on his bubble gum machine. He said he stopped me because my CA plate didn't show up in the CA database. Wanted my license, insurance, registration. I had all three (how many have all three???)

He went to his car, came back and told me the dispatcher must have typed in my plate number incorrectly and I was registered.

I took off, he passed me, and in four minutes he'd pulled over someone else.

What a turkey shoot for LE!

I must have been stopped 100 times in my life....never heard the "incorrect data entry by my dispatcher" nonsense...

We drove up the Thursday before the opening day.

Just before we hit Reno on I-80 a Pick-up with a gooseneck trailer loaded with 4-5 of the mini fire trucks that the BRC Fire Dept use got pulled over.

On the Cal side of I-80 he was running about 65mph which is 10 mph over the speed limit.. But I have no idea why he got stopped in Reno.. I just thought it was funny/weird that it was a fire rig getting pulled over....

I almost live on that path.

not sure exactly how much shoter it is from Reno center, but I think 7 miles or so has been said before.

It does take a little longer on the clock, but it is a much prettier(and better) drive, IMO.

Yesterday I had a flat tire on I80.  I eased my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully got out of the car and opened the trunk.
I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of
 my car facing oncoming traffic.

They look so life like you wouldn't believe!
They are in trench coats, exposing their nude bodies and private parts to the approaching drivers.

I started to change my tire, and to my surprise, cars started slowing down looking at my life-like men. And of course, traffic started backing up.

Everybody was tooting their horns and waving like crazy.

It wasn't long before a cop pulled up behind me.
He got out of his car and started walking towards me. I could tell he was not a happy camper!

"What's going on here?"

"My car has a flat tire," I said calmly.

"Well, what the hell are those obscene cardboard men doing here by the road?"

I couldn't believe that he didn't know. So I told him,

"Hello-o-o-o- o-o, those are my emergency flashers!"

I saw the same truck pulled over. It was W/B near the Keystone exit.

No more police than usual. And I am always appreciative of their presence. Especially this year. A friend of mine and myself wandered back to camp to refill on booze and whatnot on Saturday night after the burn to find a girl bloodied and beaten by her boyfriend, we took her to FA and dealt with them and the police. Both of which treated us with utmost respect.
