Virgin from LA!

I've known about burning man for years now and have wanted to go since.. forever.

Well until recently I never put much effort into finding anything out about it. But since 2009 rolled around without me I have been doing forum searches and reading the guides on what to expect and bring. I think I am ready and willing for 2010.

I hope to get more into the community around LA as well. So I hope to meet friends before 2010. I think I got a good head start!

Check out burningman sponsored and "Burner" sponsored events before the burn if you think you're interested.

There are also lots of other events in our area. Gigsville is a large LA based village. They are also doing a decompression, probably in the beginning of november.

We are a LA/Inland Empire camp that often mingles with Gigsvillians. We attend and contribute to many local events as well as put on a few of our own throughout the year. We typically do one Thanksgiving weekend in the LA Nat. Forest and New Years in Zion. We also do others but those are coming fairly soon. Our page hasn't been updated much but I'm working on a re-do at this very moment to make it easier for our members to contribute to the page, so if you want current info on what we're doing, let me know. It's a good place to see what we're about though.

Read, learn and educate yourself as much as possible before going to the playa. You commitment however will be like diving into a pool. Once you decide to go, you should make a full mental commitment to make this happen. It will start to consume your thoughts during most of your waking hours and many of your dreams will be of anticipation.

Welcome and best of luck getting ready for BM 2010. Feel free to ask questions that you may have and look forward to seeing you on the playa.

This was my virgin burn, but had camped on the playa before. Since I bought my tickets in May I was preparing. I got a basic list from a veteran burner, and added to it all year. I am a regular camper/boondocker so I figured this was just a camp out in the desert. And survival was the key. Make it the week. My preparation, including this forum, made me very prepared and life was good. Left me free to do what had to be done. There are some minor changes, but otherwise will do it the same next year. Take the task of planning seriously. It is a week in a very harsh environment and if you're not ready for it, it could kill your buzz. Saw some struggling. Heloise of the Playa had some good tips, too.

Hi Matt,

I recommend getting on Tribe.net. I have received a wealth of invaluable information there regarding shade structures, cooking tips, and costumes. It may also make it easier for you to find burner-type groups in your area.

Thank you all! Yes Los Angeles. I had my first nibble at the decomp and loved loved loved it. Met a lot of wonderful people and even played a bit of duck duck goose in the alcohol area.

I have been reading and re-reading quite a bit! Ill take a bath and read them or take a gander while at work. I am sure by the time the summer comes around I will be ready mind, body, and soul!
