Hee hee, actually when I heard that rumor the person swore it was called "Camp One" not "First Camp." Does sound more dramatic that way, doesn't it.oneeyeddick wrote:Camp one ???
I think you mean "First Camp"
I forgive you because you are new and because your avatar kinda creeps me out.
Did any of you look for Daft Punk 2009

Re: Something about Daft Punk
I don't think the problem was that people believe what they want to believe. The problem is that they believed what was written in the Who What When. Which if memory serves said "Daft Punk Headlining". Which I think is pretty fucking stupid to put 'headlining' unless the said talent is actually headlining. People believed the bullshit that was printed. Period. They didn't just pull it out of their ass.zorro sings wrote:An unfortunate choice of words as it turned out with the result being an event that at least 2-3 case studies could be conducted on people believing what they want to believe.

Re: Something about Daft Punk
The other problem besides people believing what they want, is people believing something just because its in print. I think the survival guide should say someting along the lines of "all scheduled events should be considered suggestions of things that may or may not occur at a fixed point in a temporal continuum. Your results may vary."Absolut Jeenyus wrote:The problem is that they believed what was written in the Who What When. If there's one event I wish I had not missed a few years back, It was the "Elvis Costello Sing-Along". I'm pretty sure it was NOT hosted by E.C. himself but sounded like scads of fun. Did anybody look for or find it?

I assumed that was a intentional prank, and I thought it was hilarious! I've seen Daft Punk live twice, and I've seen Verboten play Daft Punk CDs. If I closed my eyes I would have a hard time telling the difference.
We always tell everyone we see that Paul Oakenfold is playing a super secret show with The Crystal Method and Daft Punk and DJ Dan and blah blah famous DJ at 2am just past the trash fence. I hope no one has ever fallen for it, but if they have I just consider it Burning Man Darwinism.

Well, I had a blast there, being right at the front next to the DJ. Love that it became this huge rumour.
For those who made it inside and enjoyed the chaos, here's some photo memories:

We had lunch with Larry on the way out Tuesday at Bruno's in Gerlach.
He was is one of the middle tables with some other people and we were off in a corner marveling at these things in the small room that had an endless flow of PRESSURIZED water coming from them by turning a knob.
I spotted the hat and realized it was THE Hat.

Thanks Zorro Sings...
For playing the songs! But I still think country music would have shut down the party faster. :0) Either way, I have a heck of a story to tell about my first night as a Ranger!

We were rather surprised to see this topic resurface.Thought the dust had settled! We do want to thank carefactornil for the pictures.Reminds us of,in retrospect what was one incredible evening.Just a note to let everyone know that Daft Punk/Kraftwerk Night will return this year at Club Verboten.Unfortunately negotiations with the Daft Punk reps have collapsed and all we will offer is PRE RECORDED dance music.PASS THE WORD......please. See you all in 7 months!!!

One of my favorite playa stories is from 05, the year Dicky was lock in his clear box and they didn‘t let him out until late Sunday of the week. So Sunday night, after the temple burn, a campmate walks in for the evening, sat down and was telling us how the evening had gone. He had been at a dome somewhere listening to Gordon Sumner play a little bit on his guitar. He said it was a mellow sort of affair until Dicky walked in and then the party really got jumping, so he left.RedHeaven wrote:...I thought it was hilarious when these (very sweet might i add) 20 year old Bman virgins came back to camp so confused. I said, oh hunnies, if you read it right it just says they are going to play Daft Punk music!!!
So yeah.....ya think, OK thats VERY Burning Man and VERY funny!!
But then Sunday rolls around and you hear rumors of Theivery Corp playign Shift camp and Hookahdome.
You laff, once again.
But then, it actually happens.
I LOVE BURNING MAN!!!
I love the way Burning Man can turn normal paradigms on their heads.

Don't believe him! It's merely another clever RUSE for the purpose of crowd control! I have it on questionable, unreliable authority that Daft Punk WILL INDEED perform live! OK? Great! Now go check your Facebook while I talk to everybody else here:zorro sings wrote:We were rather surprised to see this topic resurface.Thought the dust had settled! I loved the Dicky Box art installation! It was part of the inspiration of Zsu Zsu in that his was brought about by feelings of isolation and hers by feelings of superiority. Both confining traps, though you have to admire a guy who did it live.LeChatNoir wrote:One of my favorite playa stories is from 05, the year Dicky was lock in his clear box and they didn‘t let him out until late Sunday of the week. Careful now. These ruses are delicate operations, very powerful but must be kept underground.Mister Jellyfish Mister wrote: Don't believe him! Meanwhile I found this thread from a few years back concerning another Daft Punk performance at BRC

Twas my first year and when I heard about Daft Punk I knew I had to be there...and on acid. Unfortunately it did not happen, and a collective moan of disdain was heard for millions of miles around. Then some other things happened and we all moved on.....The End.
I may be crazy but at least I'm not sane.

[email protected] happened. but you weren't there
Daft Punk have played BM, which is why this rumor had so much life to it. And why so many showed up after hearing from friends of friends about that legendary visit. Except that year they played it was not advertised....it was 08 I think, but hell it could have been 07 too. I forgot.....but was most definitely there.

After reading the WWW last year, and knowing of playa pranks (I was a virgin), I figured it would probably be a prank. A few days before the "show", a friend and I took a ride out there just to see how big this club was... and when we got there, we knew there was no way they were playing live.
Nevertheless, we biked on over on the night in question, just to see the riot. It was hilarious! Some people were really pissed off, some disappointed, some didn't care and were still dancing, and others, like us, had come just to watch.
It was pretty damn entertaining.
Then, of course, the spawn of that rumour came - a playa joke that everyone had fun with the rest of the week - "Didn't you know? Daft Punk's playing at the rocketship launch!" :P I still can't believe anyone actually thought it would take off...
