While I'm sure there will be some disputes to this reply, parachutes should be fairly far down on the list for your shade consideration.
They do not "breathe" or allow for any airflow through the structure they are covering, the shade provided is mediocre at best and if not staked down very well, a strong gust of wind or sustained breeze will remind you why they are used to catch the air and slow stuff down as it inflates and goes airborne.

Playawaste Raiders cordially invites you to suck it.

I agree. I have two parachutes. My son uses one to cover his dome and that it a pretty good use for it.
This year for the first time, we actually used the other parachute to cover our courtyard area between the tents and the costco carports. It was ok, but so many better alternatives available. Don't think I will use it again.
They do look pretty darn cool in some other camps I have seen, though.

We used a parachute this year. After 3 people were injured by the support poles and a broken bracket on a motor home, we finally had it dialed in (after 5 pieces of rebar and a whole lot o duct tape). Yeah, they provide great shade but they also become a great sail in the sand storms! Get the ripply cut stuff instead, more expensive but well worth it.

This works on tarps...never tried parachute... I lay 6 inch strips of duct tape randomly, on the tarp, and cut a slit inside the tape. Lowers wind resistance, and ventilates. I think the structure holding the parachute, is the important part though....LostinReno wrote::lol: :lol:TomServo wrote:www.sportsmansguide.com.
