Re: Black Rock City is in N. Paiute Territory
That's an excellent question. I also think it's time for them to start providing dumpsters at the event. I'd pay extra for the ticket for that service. And I doubt it would be any more or less against the principles of BM than selling ice or coffee.Sail Man wrote: My question is why the Org doesnt put dumpsters along exodus to maybe alleviate some of this.
One of the gas stations along the way provided a dumpster with no charge...we filled up and were able to drop off all of our trash.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Woweee. Really? You can't see all the implications of hauling everyone's trash out of there besides the fact that would cause the prices of tickets to skyrocket even more? It would also create the idea that people could just moop and trash the place since they paid for clean up? Do you know how much it would cost to remove a trash from a weeks worth of partying by 40,000+ people which is roughly the equivalent to some small cities. I mean it's hard enough already that some people do abandon their belongings and trash. I hate this idea even more than people yapping on their cell phones. It's ridiculous to think people shouldn't be expected to clean up after themselves now and that BMORG should haul their shit out. Besides, it would after all end up in nearby landfills further burdening nearby communities.jkisha wrote:That's an excellent question. Perhaps the larger camps & villages could rent a u-haul just for their trash.. or maybe they already do. ?? I pack mine out w/ no problem. I also don't bring much "moopy" stuff out. It's amazing how much trash the portos produce though. I was constantly picking up toilet paper pieces @ my camp this year.

The thing is, if we think about it, we can all remember seeing public trash cans full to over flowing and still people are putting stuff on top of or next to the mess. Dumpsters or trashcans imply that someone comes by to empty them. And that that someone will deal with the overflow and next to garbage as well.oneeyeddick wrote:There were dumpsters in 1999 at the gate on the way out.
it didn't work too well...overloaded and bags and loose trash on the ground all around them.

Speak for your own damn village. We have to file a clean-up plan, but that plan doesn't have to be "rent a u-haul."Boijoy wrote:Perhaps the larger camps & villages could rent a u-haul just for their trash...

If you pack it in, doesn't that mean you have room to pack it out? I have more room when I leave because the food has been consumed and the packaging can be crushed and the cans can be sent to recycle camp.theCryptofishist wrote:Speak for your own damn village. Actually, I find the opposite. There's the sleeping bags that wont get as small as before, the clothes that don't get as folded, all crammed into where ever I can get it, because I'm in a great big rush and my brain is a little "off" from a week on the playa. Plus, I always manage to pick up two or more largish items that look interesting to me that someone else has abandoned. Sometimes, it's a miracle that I get off playa at all. Remember, you pack to go to the playa over the course of weeks. You pack to go out from it in a matter of hours.DoriumLux wrote:If you pack it in, doesn't that mean you have room to pack it out? I hear you Fishy. I tend to be an orgainized person so I pack methodically for the trip out. However, during the burn, shit gets stuffed where ever. I think the addition of all the dust more then makes up for any gain in spacetheCryptofishist wrote:Actually, I find the opposite.
