Woohoo! I just drove thru Los Angeles on I-405. They have huge billboards down there with the number 2012 and wording like "We Were Warned" and "Can You Survive?"

Not to take anything away from the 2010 and 2011 themes, but 2012 is already shaping up to be a Doozie!

So he bailed and now hundreds of years later a bunch of fucking hippies smoking the wrong strains of bud proceed to sit down and try and decode this stuff and scare the shit out of a bunch of new agers and wannabe pseudo hippies by predicting crap that's not going to happen. So go tell your dispensary that the shit they sold you ain't working and try something new and leave the predicting history crap alone. Go make some more tie dye shit or go look up where the Rainbows think they'll have their next national gathering at. But this horse is dead....DEAD. In 2012 you'll be sitting there enjoying your vaporizer and laughing at how stupid this crap really was. Watch and see.

it's the sheer fun on pretending the world is going to end, and, we all get to live like "Mad Max" , "Roland Deschaine", or the guy on "The Road"........
(other than once a year in the desert).........

Every generation thinks they are living in the "end times".........
and, someone will always predict it, because, someday, one of them will be right.....and, that person will be known as a prophet for all eternity.......(if there is one).

it's like every year, someone predicts a major earthquake in the next ten years.........well, when it happens, they can claim to have foretold it.........and, they'll be right......

just my 2 cents....

excellent disinformational tactic ygmir, lord knows if these new age death-cult adherents actually figure out that it is all part of a global black op coordinated among the superpowers to depopulate the planet thru a mock meteor strike on mainland china and subsequent global catastrophe that will follow, then the whole surprise factor will be ruined for the big reveal.

oops, did i just say that out loud?

damn.

dont worry, they're all too stupid to seek higher ground until its way too late.

like 4500 feet above sea level.

i digress.

let them keep thinking the Rupture, i mean Rapture is Nigh...

it's entertaining, to say the least, and a perfect example of the natural selection process that will inevitably save our species from extinction.

Ahhh... a movie. Should have guessed. They live and breathe movies down there. Maybe there will be some stuff in the movie that we can have fun with later.

To the Pacific Islanders: Don't rebuild your houses on low land and the fucking beach, again! Don't rebuild there!

Same goes for folks that live in the burning forest, next to erupting volcanos, under sliding mountains, or on top of fault lines, or higher than a second story house. Remember the tale of the " Three Little Pigs."

hey! i resemble that remark.

let's just not build houses anymore, at all! seems to me there are dangers everywhere. why bother, if a natural disaster is probably going to wipe it out sometime in the next 500 years?

jeez, you'd have to tear down the entire west coast ... where did you say you live, oldguy?

Just a quick note on the CERN/LHC black hole. Cosmic rays frequently strike the earth with far more energy than the highest energy expected for CERN/LHC. That means that the doomsday scenario has already been tested many times over (even within the past year) and found to be untenable.

Of course, Yellowstone could explode in 2012, or a big rock from space could hit, or Fox News could support Obama. It's the end of the world as we know it, someday.

If we have to go, I vote multiverse collision at light speed.

But everyone knows by now that the big asteroid due in 2025 is the real threat.

I predict burners that survive will be unimpressed.

And I can't believe Badger even read this thread.

I'm sure that they will make the best available choice.

Of course, we have Italians living on Vesuvius. Fertile soil. Sometimes the best short term choice is not the best long term choice. And sometimes a trailer park is what you can afford.

on the flood plain of the Yuba, Sacaramento, and Feather rivers, IIRC.

Ygmir, " Build your house upon a rock." Like you , My cabin is built above the plain; but near the Sutter Buttes, near an abandoned missle silo. I also have a boat if I have no time, and a motorhome if I have time to get out of Dodge. The economic base here is agriculture. It is a rural area.

I live well North of the Yuba River. The closest crossing of the Sacramento River is Colusa. The closest crossing of the Feather River is Gridley. The Northern Sacramento Valley is a fine place is live. I could take I5 or 99E north towards Chico or Redding.

I agree environmental threats exist everywhere but we can all take steps to mitigate or end those dangers. I have approriate defensable space cut around my cabin, the local threat being grassfires. I volunteered seven years with the local fire department and have knowledge of firefighting.

I understand that, and, the bible passage although written symbolically, also has seismic value.......good point.

I have no problem with, and was not meaning disrespect towards, where you live......it is a fine area......near the smallest mountain range in the world........

but, also, it is still in a flood plain..........true, it'd be a big flood, but, the valley has that ability, as would any of the above rivers.... given the correct combination of geologic and atmospheric events........
good for you for having defensible space..........I do, as well, in my forest home.......but, my insurance canceled me anyway.........because the "area" might burn.........I got an "A" from the forestry dept. for my clearing....

as Fishy pointed out, some have no choice where they build, or live.......some do. Some decide to take the risk of disaster to live in a particular spot (Vesuvius, Hawaii, Bengladesh, etc.......) some have no choice or knowledge..........

I was just offering another view of your "broad brush" statement to others, not to live in certain areas.........Pacific Islanders or people in Seattle...........

In geology, they are called "areas of change", I think.
Most are predictable.

I bought above the flood plain, but there is little that high here.

Hark! an Ark! or a Narc, or two larks in an ark built of bark.

Hello, Dimitri? No it wasn't us, well, maybe it was, but it was a mistake... oh the date? Why the date Dimitri? 2012? my ass? goodbye? Dimitri, now there's no need to be nasty.
