its time...

Post by littlegreenkat » Mon Sep 28, 2009 8:17 am

its time that i stop lurking and start participating!!!! i've wanted to go to burning man for at least the last 5 years. i havn't because everytime i mention it my wife gets this look of dread on her face. i'm going to change that!! i want to go within the next 2 years so if i start preparing now i'll be very ready by then.

last night i had a horrible nightmare about us getting to the gate with nothing but our tickets and having to run around shopping around for EVERYTHING and when we got back to the gate we were still missing the water! i know this wont happen to me/us but wow it made me wake up and want to post my introduction and start preparing for my dream.

my name is martha. i am 30 years old, transplant from NY to CA. i moved here for the love of my life and we are very much happy together. we live close enough to BRC that its a crime i havn't been there yet. i work at a job that pays my bills and keeps me busy. i am an artist at heart and creating things is what truly fuels my fire.

i'm torn between camping on our own or joining/forming a camp. anyone want to highlight the pros & cons?

i've read the guides. i've researched tents. i've figured out what type of foods we could cook. i just need to buy tickets and go!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya!

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Welcome Home.

Let's see... your own camp. Good: you can do what you want when you want. No camp dues. Privacy and autonomy.

Bad: Infrastructure is expensive and bulky. Less variety with the food. Not knowing where you will camp until you get there. No others to diffuse camp drama.

Theme camp: Good: A place to pitch your tent, possibly shade and showers and a kitchen. Interaction with many people. People to watch your back if you're lucky.

Bad: Lack of privacy. Camp dues. Working on a schedule. Eating from a common kitchen. Camp drama on a larger scale.

Welcome to the neighborhood.
It sounds like you're close enough to drive to BRC. You've got most of your logistics all taken care of. Most people have to find a way to transport stuff or buy everything once they land. All you need to do is find a vehicle that will fit everything and you're practically there.

Once you have your mind made up, just buy those foolish tickets and the rest will fall into place. Mark your calendar for JANUARY 13, 2010 (my guess) at 10:00AM Pacific time for tickets to go on sale. I figure the price will be around $215 to $220 for the first level of tickets.

Best of luck with your plans and I hope you make it to the playa for 2010.
