The Sugary Buds story continues......INFO

Post by pandasex » Mon Sep 28, 2009 4:22 pm

im sure all of you on the eplaya get the same burning man mail I do.....but in case you do not check it heres the story

"SEEKING VIDEO OR PHOTOS OF THAT HELICOPTER

If you were witness to the low-flying helicopter pulling an
advertising banner over BRC on Saturday of the event, two things for
you:

Firstly, no, no, and hell no, Burning Man didn't and wouldn't approve
an advertising banner's flight pattern over BRC. In fact, the copter's
flight was unannounced, unpermitted, and by all accounts and
observation, flew below the legally controlled "ceiling" of BRI
airport, and against the flight pattern used by small craft above BRC.

Even if Black Rock City's residents WERE the type to respond well to
marketing ploys, (which, ha)...well, loose maneuver, dude, quoth the
Rabbits.

Here's where you all come in: if you got video or photos of this
helicopter flight that clearly show its elevation in perspective from
the ground, PLEASE let us know: [email protected]

The best solace of the whole shebang is, knowing Burners, it's highly
doubtful this stunt earned Unnamed Company X any customers or
supporters.... in fact it probably generated them nothing short of
massive amounts of resentment toward their brand and since we know a
few people who have written their CEO to tell him as much, we're sort
of guessing that he wishes they'd never heard of Burning Man right
about now. My, but you Burners are protective of our fair city and its
values. Smooch!"

Im pretty sure that Sugary Buds Company is regretting their ad campaign. But, it seems to be turning into a witchhunt.

They want the helicopter pilots license? thats the only recourse for photos of a low flight.

I hope the FAA makes that pilot sweat, but yanking his license may be a bit much especially if flying is how the guy makes his living. One transgression should not end a career. That being said all around me I heard people wondering if the helo was going to crash from pulling that huge banner...it was way too low. Now I know what's written on the back of my ticket about risk but I shouldn't have to be looking up on the off chance someone is going to get smacked by a crashing aircraft....

In other words something needs to be done, but I hope people use common sense and moderation in the process.

Let's not jump to conclusions. Flying against the pattern and below the ceiling is scary business, but our desire for corroborating photographs doth not a witchhunt make.

No such thing as bad publicity.

I wish to give them anonymity.

For some strange reason, they e-mailed me the apology letter from "Big Mike" again today. I guess they are sorry again.

I remember seeing the Helicopter and its ad. banner, I didn't consider at the moment that it was dangerous flying that low as is described above. But I do remember thinking ''that aint fucking on!''. Firstly I didn't like the implication it made - saying that BM attendees are all 'stoners' and that we would be interested in the 'product'.

Also, having seen how advertising has destroyed all the spirit of the U.K festivals, I found this 'egotistical act' quite a shame. It reminded me of the cheap shit newspapers we have and the good 'scenes' that they destroy.

Maybe next year Co2 will be advertised - implying we are all plants!

I couldn't read it, and squinted it at it with some equally myopic freinds. We worked out Sugary after a minute or two, and then gave up. Forget about knowing what the ad was for or who sponsored it. I suppose only people with good eyesight grow pot.
