WTF !!!!!!!!!! Rubbish, junk, shit!
WTF !!!!!!!!!! Rubbish, junk, shit!
What the fuck was all that fucking rubbish, junk and shit.?????
After a quick exodus on Monday morning, I couldnt believe the ammount of crap by the roadside of 1-80? Whatever - the first road you hit. The shit went on for fucking miles!!!!!!!!!!!
Some of it may of fallen off due to being badly tied down etc. But not that much!!!!!
I would like to say thanks to all the wankers that dumped their shit along that road!
Cheers for spoiling my first burn!
I flew solo from England, I paid $360 for ticket at gate, I slept outside on a sunlounger, I was smashed the entire time, I didnt piss on anyones tent etc, (though I did have shit in my pants come the end of the week) I didnt even drink any water!! BUT, I did not leave one fucking cigarette butt on the playa!
Surely...... If I can do it !!!!!!

It's indefensible. What I don't understand is why the local and state cops don't just set up in force on the roads to ticket all those people as they are dumping their trash. The fine is $2,000.00 per offense or more and it's a hell of a lot more money than they could make than from issuing speeding tickets.

Also much more money than the drug busts everybody is incessantly whining about.jkisha wrote:It's indefensible. And there are some who brought out TONS of stuff, supplies, drink, art, shade for everyone to enjoy. And yes, some lose shit along the highway, not everyone is adept at tying shit down, loading crap. BUT one of the things we do is clean up the roads from the BRC into Wadsworth, and then North also.303jewels wrote:What the fuck was all that fucking rubbish, junk and shit.?????

Maybe next year you should stay over a bit longer and help clean it up.
Instead of just flying in for the party and leaving.
i agree this was a terrible year for trash on and off the playa. I tried to clean up on the playa picking up trash i found. Off the playa on the roadside however there was too much traffic to pull over not too mention there are no real places to pull over.
No shit though if they busted ppl for intentional littering on the roads they wouldnt need to chase harmless pot smokers.

I have post playa depression :(
Sculpture?
2009 was my first burn and it was glorious.
A friend and I were brainstorming things to do at next year's burn, and I thought -- what if we went around collecting trash -- at the fence, etc -- and made some sort of real-time sculpture from it? Done by Saturday. Then burned!

When I left on Sunday morning, I saw lots of bags with clothes and other usable stuff on the road. I'm sure this came off of cars roofs from not being tied down well. Trash is also put up on top of cars simply because no one wants that smelly, rotting crap inside their car. Most of these bags stay up, but many of them come loose and hit the road without the drivers even knowing. 447 and I80 are not places you would stop to dispose of your trash. It has to be just from sloppiness and stupidity.
There was a dumpster is Gerlach next to mama Lola's house, but he was charging quite a bit per bag to dispose of trash. I think the price was $8.00 per bag.
I am pretty sure that Taz Petrell has the esteemed job of traveling that route and picking up that trash once the traffic dies down.

You speed over a longish period of time and for as many miles as you can.jkisha wrote:It's indefensible. Throwing trash out your car window takes seconds.
Do they even have a case if they can't see you? It's not like there's likely to be a lot of names and addresses in the trash bags if they sift through them. Speeding and drug busts are much lower hanging fruit.

Don't know, just speculating, but even cameras set up on the roads like they use for speeding, or planes like they use for speeding. There must be a way.theCryptofishist wrote:You speed over a longish period of time and for as many miles as you can.jkisha wrote:It's indefensible. Cameras: man power spent in real time or later watching them. And all you'd have to do is dump someplace where there aren't cameras.
Planes: No landing out there. Although you could radio to the ground. But now it's getting really expensive, and again, no guarantee the plane would be there to see the offense.
edited to add: maybe if they staked out by the dumpsters in Nixon or Wadsworth.

If that's the case, why do they even bother to spend the money to post those fines for littering signs then? No wonder people feel free to throw their trash along the highway; after all, it is THEIR tax dollars that pay for someone to clean up the mess.

I would bet the majority of the garbage along the road blows off.....
I've seen some of the worst jobs of securing loads leaving BRC.........
Jeeze, it's like some people are naive, stupid, lazy, or just don't care........
I've seen the tops of cars and trailers, motorhomes, etc....with one or two crappy bungees or string, or even tape, holding hundreds of pounds of stuff, and, supposed to hold over bumps and at 70 mph........
to bad a "load check" station couldn't pop up......a "spotter" who would point out a bad load to the driver, and, a spot to pull out of line, maybe even with helper/advisors, to fix the problem before hitting the road........
if they choose not to pull over and accept help, well, the tickets certainly well deserved...
I'd volunteer for that, maybe setting it up just after the line gets down to single file.....so it's easier and safer to contact drivers and pull off/on......

i was on bike, at night on tuesday after clean-up heading to reno.
twice we had to swerve to avoid schtuff in the road.
it's not just wrong and unsightly, it's fucking dangerous as shit for those of us on two wheels.
me personally, it's one thing to be stupid and lazy, in which case you will receive my scorn and mockery, BUT, if i ever see anyone tossing garbage intentionally, i will follow you until you stop, then i will drag your ass from the car, and give you a solid whoopin'.
because you just tried to kill me.
so, please, anyone reading this who might be a first timer, and for all of those vets who should know better
DON'T DO IT!
thank you, and now on with the usual snark.

I think we need cameras during Exodus, and post the Drive of Shame aka How Not to Pack:

Well, they kinda have a tarp over it ... a loose tarp which will catch the wind and undo those knots. And who needs a bike rack?

Naw, we put on lots of ropes, none of that shit is going to wriggle out.

The "I don't care about the laws of physics" packing method.
And to be fair, our trailer:

Larry did load checks at every stop! Those trikes are on there with zero wiggle room.

Pre-tarp. Plenty of ratchet straps for weight-bearing parts of the load, and trucker bungees to keep everything tight.

I assume that there is some value in scaring people so they don't. Also, cops get lucky and see it; I'm just saying that in that situation going after speeders may give them more bang for the law enforcement buck.jkisha wrote:If that's the case, why do they even bother to spend the money to post those fines for littering signs then? I think thats a cool idea, but after waiting all that time to get to the single lane, I'd bet some people would get pretty "annoyed" if pulled out of line to secure their load better. At the least, let them get right back in line asap.ygmir wrote:to bad a "load check" station couldn't pop up......a "spotter" who would point out a bad load to the driver, and, a spot to pull out of line, maybe even with helper/advisors, to fix the problem before hitting the road........

Or what about, having it set up so that as you cruised past the dpw donation spot?
And, who would supply the rope, bungy cords etc to help tie down the loose loads?
Excuse me Ma'am, your going to feel a small prick.

There was a guy a few cars in front of me during exodus towing another vehicle with a "tow" strap. It was incredibly unsafe, and I would guess to prevent the other car from rolling forward and damaging his vehicle, the guy wouldn't move forward unless there was a lot of space in front of him. By a lot I mean 3 vehicle lengths or more. Which of course meant all sorts of line jumpers were cutting in front of him. I wish the cops would keep an eye out for people with dangerous, unsafe setups like this and stop and ticket them. The passenger in my car went and talked to the guy, he of course didn't care about what he was doing and his response that the people cutting the line in front of him were jerks. He saw nothing wrong with what he was doing.

There was a guy in our camp that had an old pop-up VW or some such vehicle...the line moved so slowly during exodis that his VW over-heated and another guy towed him just to the road. Then he was able to refill the radiator and start up the VW and drive on his own. Was this on Monday?slvrnmph wrote:There was a guy a few cars in front of me during exodus towing another vehicle with a "tow" strap. How about for exodus replacing all of the signs from the gate outward with instructions and pictures of how to secure your load. Also supply plenty of pull-offs along the way with maybe donated items such as rope, bungees, etc. Then when you get to single file and you have an unsecure load you get directed all the way back to the gate and told that maybe THIS time you'll read the signs.Sail Man wrote: I think thats a cool idea, but after waiting all that time to get to the single lane, I'd bet some people would get pretty "annoyed" if pulled out of line to secure their load better. Worse than unsecured loads - I saw 3 cars on Sunday night heading west on 80 that were pretty obviously burners pulling trailers with no lights on the trailer. Two utilities and one camping -- now that's scary.

Actually, they will.Boijoy wrote:I guess the point of the towing would be,, because AAA won't come to you on the playa.. you have to get your broke ass vehicle to the road any way you can.
We saw Danger Ranger towing vehicles to the side of the line. Mostly old RVs and buses, six that I counted, I think there were more. That pickup of his may look like crap, but it has super-powers. we'd probably have hit the pavement sooner if we hadn't had so many POS things break down in the line we were in!

Really Anti? Because, I called my AAA before I left home and they said NO to the playa. They would come as far as the entrance,, but they won't leave the pavement. & I'm not sure what service the one gentleman who lost his keys used. but he used our phone a couple times & they woulldnt' come out. He had a friend ship a set to Gerlach somewhere & took the shuttle in. Hummmm..
