******from lucid******
its a grocery store... i was an assistant grocery manager in january and the company "restructured" and laid off a bunch of people....now Im a manager of 5 departments...my store manager is cutting all our hours left and right (we all think to make her yearly bonus)...my part time help sucks! (college kids who dont care) and they wont let me hire anyone else...Im busting my ass and I had managers who were above me before now working under me still making 2-6 dollars an hour more than me!!!!

life was simple when I was a part timer...had enough money to get by and enjoy life...then of course you feed into marketing and you need to buy things and have kids and need cars to get to work and it spirals out of control and you need higher paying jobs just to survive OH MY GOD!!!! lol

Hey Lucid, let me share my rarely seen business advice with you.
We are absolutely at the tail end of the worst economy since the great depresssion--at least here in MA. Your store has no choice but to make the moves that they did, but they do value YOU if you were put in this position to run 5 departments. Once the turn around is in full swing in the first quarter of 2010, they will be adding headcount back and you will be firmly positioned to move back up the line and have your salary increase.
It's very hard to keep a good attitude during this mess, but with any luck, it will pay off in the near future. Customers will demand better service once things pick up.
The knee-jerk reaction to all this, is to say fuckitall and have a shitty outlook toward the customers and your employer, but fight it and try to shine during this tough time and it will pay off for you.
This type of thing always goes in cycles and while it's hard to see now, there is that upswing just around the corner.
I'm curious if you PM me which store it is. It sounds like the big store right near UMass.

Now, back to our regularly scheduled program!
