The tow strap guy was on Sunday, not Monday. He seemed to think this was a standard towing setup, not a temporary tow setup to get a vehicle to a mechanic. He generally liked to leave his vehicle to chat with the guy he was "towing" and disregard what was going on around him. The majority of the vehicles cutting in front of him into the empty space were large RVs. Eventually vehicles were regularly veering to the side to take advantage of the next hole he would be opening. Oh yeah, and he was Canadian and heading north. (Not trying to dis the Canadians here, just pointing out his direction home) I don't know how close the nearest town is heading north out of BRC, but it seems like if this was temporary to get to a mechanic that he would have been heading to Gerlach.

I understand AAA doesn't come to the playa, but if you are doing something that requires caution, like towing with a strap then pay attention to driving, not socializing. Exodus is not fun. Watching this guy I was waiting for an accident to happen.

And for the record, wood or cargo has 4 feet of freeplay before it is required to be red-flagged.

This is true in Nevada and Washington state...it differs in others

........and a unsecure load is always up to the officer that pulls you over to determine whether or not it is.

one year, last year I think, we were behind a guy who as alone in a pickup truck. Whenever the line would stop, he'd jump out and run to the back of his truck, open his cooler and make himself a tall mixed drink ... whiskey I think, the bottle was some generic half gallon thing. And 7-up. Then he'd slug it down. He fell asleep a few times. We wrote down his plate number, but didn't see a cop in a place we could safely pull over to give it to.

There was definitely a locksmith out there by Labor Day evening. Wanted cash.

I was thinking the single line, because it'd be easier to get someones attention, and, get them off and on the road.......just a flagger to get them a spot to pull out...........

I didn't mean it'd be mandatory, just a person telling the driver they have an unsafe load....(no, Simon, no....)......and, if they chose, they could pull in for help making it safe.........
