Of course, those 100-year floods are coming more often these days.

So we will have to bring Mutant jet skis.

At least we won't have to deal with BLM, the Coasties are much nicer I here.

I find that girl's eyebrows to be much, much more frightening (and interesting) than any moldy old Mayan prophesy.
Well imagine my disturbance when I thought the OT's name was TubGirl.

yeah, that money might be handy stuff when there's no more toilet paper. I read The Road a while back. Very realistic about what if nothing new grows... where do you find food etc. I guess they've made it into a movie.

The donner party's issue was only lack of condiments.

What I like about it is the subtle acting. I'm not predicting a long shelf life for this product.

The ads for that film will no doubt include MREs, bottled water and swiss army knives and the production costs underwritten by an ammo company. I'd put a smiley right there but it doesn't seem appropriate somehow.

A film like that kinda ups the ante for the survivalist talk that I've been hearing get a little louder.

With the global cooling thread and this one I'm feeling just a little overwhelmed by the possibilities and worst case scenarios. I remember being in kindergarten and having this same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. We had to crawl under our desks while air raid sirens were screaming all over the place. Even the adults couldn't hide their fear.

I'm not an end-of-the-world fundamentalist but the level of chatter is getting a little unnerving. I'm afraid one of the fundamentalists is going to do something nutty releasing this pressure cooker tension that is steaming away in some quarters. It might not be an earthquake that shakes things up, it might be that one nutty act that releases hell on earth.

Let's have a party, I'm getting morbid and tense.

HI Deb,
I'm a little confused about your use of "fundamentalist"above.........
do you use it as:

christian fundamentalist

islamic fundamentalist (the ones most likely to "release hell on earth" IMHO)
or
"survival" fundamentalist (as in a person who lives the survivalist lifestyle)

It seems you may be making two separate references with the word, but, depending on that, I take different meanings from your sentence.

I'm not complaining about what you wrote, just wanting to make sure I understand it as intended.

Very sound advice. We must really enjoy the short time we have left.

Oddly enough, I was just discussing (hey, that's what gmail calls it) this with my niece. Growing up during the cold war did take a psychological toll on a lot of us.

By that, of course, you mean the short time we'll have available to us, to mess with the people who seriously believe this crap, right? It just makes every moment of that a little more precious, doesn't it?

Is this going to be an evening party? THe eve of the 20th..So we can watch the end on Tv with beer and chips. Or are we just having one hell of a tailgate party the day of?

Might I suggest both?
And perhaps we should do it starting this year and then every December until we vaporize.

And what to wear?
As little as possible (though it could be chilly in December) since we will all want to be having wild sex until we ultimately go with smiles on our faces.

If the end of the world doesn't look like this I'm going to be pissed. Like I was when the LCROSS probe went into the Moon. I mean, where the fuck was the boom?

Well, for the most part the fundamentalists that are talking end of the world seem to be Christian and those were the ones I was saying I didn't belong to or agree with. I'm not against the survivalist fundamentalist except that I think some of them are over the edge. I do want to know about surviving though so I think about these things and wonder how we will get by. Not sure that I know any Islamic fundamentalists so can't say that I agree that they're going to be the ones that doing anything to release hell on earth.

I actually worry most about the anti-abortion fundamentalists and nutty people carrying guns to town hall meetings. Those are the ones that scare me. Someone is going to pop off Obama and then hell will really be set loose on this continent. That's what scares me.

interesting:

not knowing any islamic fundamentalists, so, you don't feel any threat? or, not as much as the anti-abortion ones?
I'd agree, that, fringes of ALL groups, cause the problems.
here in CA, we have wanton, wholesale murder commited on a regular basis by all sorts of ethnic gangs..........And, I've seen how pro-lifers will attack and even kill abortion docs, etc.
I would submit (and certainly not excuse such a horrific act), though, that far fewer people have been hurt/killed by pro-lifers than ethnic gangs.

This is why I don't understand your statement aimed specifically at the groups you mention. But, then again, I may not have enough info.

I make, perhaps a bold jump, but, it seems most of the larger terrorist actions in the world, (excluding wars waged by nations), have been perpetrated my islamic fundamentalists.......They seem to have the most skill at larger scale injury producing suicide bombings, gas attacks, (arguably) plane attacks, hijackings, etc............and, seem the most willing to spill the blood of innocents.
Perhaps my information sources are wrong, but, in my view, and opinion, the islamic fringe is most likely to commit/ release some atrocity that will do huge damage and cause societal strife.......

but, certainly, I am open to elucidation and enlightenment.............
