Depends on where you come from how big a deal this is. If you live in one of the states that used to be at the bottom of Lake Bonneville, you're not going to have much of a problem; your skin should be fairly accustomed to the alkalinity (I've never encountered the problem known as Playa Feet, hailing from UT, where our soil is quite alkaline and the annual precipitation (for most of the state) is less than that in the Black Rock Desert.
Highly recommended, however, is that Neutrogena body lotion, with special attention to the feet and hands. Bring some vinegar, maybe, too. Ah, hell just read the survival guide.

One of the most important things is to make sure your skin is in good shape before you get there! Healthy, pre-hydrated skin fares much better than cracked, atheletes foot having, big unhealed gashes skin.
Start in with the lotions, anti-fungals, pumice stone, etc a good month ahead of time and bring some lotion along and you should be ok.

This is true. So start hydrating now. You'll find it much easier to keep your skin healthy if you start drinking at least 64 oz of water a day. And it'll make the habit easier on the playa.Healthy, pre-hydrated skin fares much better than...

If I'm a procrastinator can I just drink 448 oz of water a day for the last week before the event?Ranger Genius wrote: This is true. So start hydrating now.
