I need artistic assistance on art car project (San Fran)

I'm working on an art car in San Francisco with a friend and we could use a little help. We have a general plan for how it should look at where things could go, but we're both gearheads and not gifted when it comes to aesthetic design.

The car we helped someone else with last year turned out to be a "spend 5 months building a party platform and 1 week throwing some art on it" operation and I'm hoping to avoid that this time. I want people to see it from 50 feet away and feel compelled to see it up close and figure what the hell that "thing" is walking around on the playa. Ok, so it won't really walk, but it may have non-functional legs hanging from it.

So.. do you have a knack for drawing or building prototypes of imaginary alien creature things that are roughly car-shaped? We could use your help! Level of commitment is up to you.
