The Abandoned Couch on Bernal Hill (San Francisco)

Post by sashasquash » Tue Oct 13, 2009 6:42 pm

(please remove it!)

Saw Burners bring it up a few days ago and fully supported it. (great idea!!!)

Do not support the couch being abandoned there. (not cool!!!)

Maybe someone happens to know someone who can pass on the word to those responsible?

Yes, the poor couch is experiencing abandonment issues, and when it went to the psychiatrist, it ended up feeling like a piece of the furniture.

Bonus points for the cross-threading on that one.
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

You'll probably get better results by just calling the city's large item pick-up. I doubt the people that left it will come back and remove it.

how did you know they were "Burners"?

did they smell like burners? were they naked and wearing glo-sticks? Fake fur assless chaps? rob zombie girl hair weaves and goggles?

did they have t-shirts and no pants and the t-shirts said "we're burners"

or did you assume they were burners based on your own biases of what a "burner" looks like?

maybe the people on Tribe will give a rats ass.

They dropped something and were surprised that I picked it up for them. I said, "oh, you look like Burner friends" and they said "Is it that obvious?"

"Yes!"

Also, Burners generally give away a warm and friendly vibe, (which you could use some work on) or maybe it was the couch that gave it away.

And Roberto, don't you find it sad that members of a group that praises itself for cleaning up every bit of glitter on a barren desert (a group to which YOU belong) would leave a giant, ugly piece of MOOP for their neighbors to deal with? How does this not bother you? I'll post a photo later.

A lot of us see Roberto as the "wandering minstrel of snark".........

strolling the earth, playing a mandolin, commenting in an acrid, yet accurate, sense about the things of life.....and, events therein..........

we love him 'cause he brings us cookies and Kool-Aid...........

please dont waste any more time taking pictures, i know what a sofa looks like.

alot of things bother me....this, does not.
your apathy, and total spectator nature, does.

go burn it. whatever...move it yourself, get some friends to help, re-upholster it....dont just bitch about it on-line...

Jumping Jesus, who fucking cares? And by the way, The East Coast in me wont allow me to use the word "V*be" in a sentence without cringing and pinching the nerve in my neck that bulges every time some idiot wants to bitch about something he could have just as easily taken care of himself.

man, i'm in rare form today.....i think i'm going to actually leave my workshop and go relax, maybe kick a couple of puppies, make fun of some ethnic groups, and then possibly spray pesticides on the organic produce down at the farmers market.

because thats how we roll...

I want to see a picture of it. :D
By the way, I think that this was truly in the generous spirit of Burning Man to provide a sofa on a street corner for weary commuters to stop and rest on their way to and from work. A non-burner would never have done this for their fellow citizens.

I went to SF decompression this weekend. Did you? Do you realize that there were at least three burners (if we are to judge by dress and attendance at decomp) that were willing to cut the line in front of a woman in a wheelchair? Whatever burners "pride themselves" on, that ego-stroking gets in way of a lot of civil and civic-minded behavior. And they are even less likely to pick it up now that it's soaked through. What's less than no likelihood anyway? Maybe they'll dump another.

I'm sorry that you have to see the ugly truth this way, but in time the hurt will lesson and it will become a valuable lesson. No one group is any better than any other group.

Well, depending on your view of things, the story has a happy ending. Someone came and took me to the head of the line.

I did not scoot passes the cutters yelling "Ha-Ha!"

Slow News Day?

Post by gyre » Thu Oct 15, 2009 9:07 pm

So is this a big news story or what?
What's the fixation on this couch?
Is this a defenestration issue?
Is there something significant about this hill?
