@mdmf007
I did wear a mask for much of the time apart from the occasional sand storm. But there are other factors such as dust where you sleep, one clothes in your hair which all contribute to an increased level of inhalation. I'm trying to draw your awareness of the fact that the dust is hazardous and not merely a nuisance.

i do...they breathe for me, and when i die, you can scrape the resin out and smoke it.
what i dont give a damn about is your pathetic attempt to blame whatever it is that ails you on the playa and/or burning man for not telling you that it might be bad for you.
golly, it's not higher math, or even emerging technology, it's COMMON FUCKING SENSE.
please, please, go buy yourself a clue.

since you are sounding so lawyer-like and shit, i'll ask you the same.
have you proven your case with any facts besides some hearsay, conjecture and anecdotal (at best) "evidence"...
and yes, your beliefs about safety are unfounded.
are you perhaps one of those people that never leaves their house?

OK papers are articles:
Silica:
http://www.osha.gov/OshDoc/data_General ... tsheet.pdf
Owens lake:
http://geochange.er.usgs.gov/sw/impacts/geology/owens/
http://www.gbuapcd.org/Information/Owen ... ffects.htm
I can find thousands of papers on google about the effect of silica, silicosis and lung cancer. Its all there for the reader. Do you hae any evidence that states that Playa dust is safe?

as far as i know burning man has never been held at owens lake...
i'm sure they will inform you if they do.
what is your agenda? are you looking to sue? are you just a pain in the ass?
were you like this as a kid too?
questions, questions...
if you are a lawyer or someone with litigious intentions just say so and stop wasting bandwidth.
if you are really freaking out about this, i feel really really truly sorry for you.
you must lead a very fearful life.

Emergenttech in 2010?
emergenttech,
would it be safe to assume you will not be attending Burning Man in 2010?
-----------------------------
Mods, is there a way to plonk a thread?

Are there other things we should be warning Emergentech about?
I mean, breathing is already a risk--all that Chinese mercury...
Sex--out, completely out. even you find an unbreakable condom, you never know when you've bedded a stalker who's going ot make your life miserable for the next two years.
I don't even want to hear from the vegans, so I wont mention hamburgers, but that's not the only food with e. coli issues.
Don't drive. Don't take airplanes.
Don't stand next to plate glass windows. If an earthquake hits you might be hit with shards of glass. And that's not simply a California risk. Seattle, New York and Missouri are all places I've seen referenced as areas that are seismically dormant, but with the possibility of earthquake activity.
Oh, and don't cross the street in San Francisco. Not even when you have the green light.

might this be analogized to a person complaining in a bar, and warning the patrons within, about the ill effects of alcohol?..........
we know,
we accept the risk,
the bar doesn't need to tell us (although, here in PRC, they have to post a sign so stating).
we are (mostly) intelligent adults.
As appreciative as some of us may be for your attempt to enlighten us to the dangers you feel we are not aware of, I'd submit we are aware of the potentials, and, willingly assume the risk.
And, as sorry I am that you are freaked out about said conditions, I am not going to pat your hand and assure you "it'll be fine"..........
I will state "it'll be fine" but, won't really care if you believe me or not.
I do hope you can settle this within yourself, whether you Burn, or not........
seems disturbing for you.........
good luck.

I live in the central Valley of California, it is said that if you die here the autopsy will most likely show that you will have Valley Lung. http://www.medicinenet.com/valley_fever/article.htm
How many Millions live here? We know the facts/risk yet we still choose to live here.
12 years 7-10 days each year, I think it's going to take many more years to impact my lungs to the alarm that your trying to crank up. What about everyone that live in the Black Rock Region?
My goal in life is to mess up that autopsy and confuse them with Playa Lung.

Emergenttech reminds me of the hypochondriac on the TV show "Northern Exposure" tracks world winds, and chemical plant outfalls, and forest fires plotting the rates of dissipation before it hits him in Alaska.
You win - no one is going to Bm 2010, the health risks are just too high. And your right, I stopped caring about my lungs. Death takes years of your life - at the end, and those years suck anyways.

@ ibdave:
"12 years 7-10 days each year, I think it's going to take many more years to impact my lungs to the alarm that your trying to crank up. What about everyone that live in the Black Rock Region?"
What if the short exposure at BM is enough to cause severe problems because the intensity of the exposure. The lag in health problems might be leading people into a false sense of security. I really do not know about the incidence of pneumoconiosis and lung cancer amongst locals in Black Rock...
As I say I draw yr attention to the wild card nature of the exposure setting and the potential not really being able to quantify as yet the relation between exposure and lung cancer...although exposure would be expected to be large.
Yes for all those who bang on about risk. I understand risk quite well, if I go into a smoky bar I can appreciate the risks of passive smoking: i.e. I know its there and I know the risks I am undertaking. But what about BM - I and I think many people do not know of the potential implications of attending from specifically the surface itself.
I really hope the exposures and harm coming to people who go to BM (inc my friends) are negligible. But as you can appreciate its fairly hard to quantify.
