Adopt hard-working solo nice 51yr woman in your theme camp?
51yr old female virgin. Needs a theme camp. Suggestions?
Hi everyone
I live in Oregon, 51, married and my want to go to BM 2010. Husband and friends not into it so planning on going myself, volunteering and seeing if I can hook up with some fun people. Not looking for the drug scene or to monkey around. I am a wine distributor and a photographer. Trying to find a camp but not sure how to do it when you dont know anyone. Anyone have any suggestions or want to adopt a fun, positive friendly girl who wants to help out? Cant wait! Anyone here from the NW? Thx!

Hey there, welcome to eplaya.
You can start hanging around here and see what appeals to you, many of us are members of camps. Also, you can check to see if there are local BM events in your area. I'm sure someone will post some links. They are listed somewhere on the main site I believe.

When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle.
Then I realized that the Lord doesn't work that way so I stole one and asked Him to forgive me

Thx! Just trying to find a camp that will "adopt" me but I am willing to work hard, contribute, whatever it takes. Just a little bit nervous going on my own and being female. Just missed the burnout here in Pdx because I had to work. Any suggestions on a theme camp that might want to have someone with a positive attitude, willing to help out that is not too crazy? Do some have community shad structures that if you camp with them, you can pay dues and use the space as a community?

Welcome!
I'm a wine hauler....we'll, mostly beer, but I do wine loads every now and then. I think if you look hard enough, you'll find a group that's right up your alley. And lucky for you, wine is the ONE alcoholic drink that's actually good for you on the playa. Don't know how generous your wineries are, but the good folks at Berringer were always good to me... Too bad they bottle in Napa now. I miss St. Helena..

Welcome Winebuff!
I've camped in Hushville for the past 3 years and it a wonderful community. I too am a solo camper since my wife is not into the Burner scene. I always have some other folks camping near and with me So if you wish, you can camp with me and whoever else comes along with me. I first went to Burning Man solo at 75 and had no problems finding really wonderful friends and campmates. I will be in Hushville again in 2010 and suggest that you look into it. There is a Hushville group on Yahoo mail that is fun to be part of.
Have no fear, fun and excitement is near!

Adopt hard-working solo nice 51yr woman in your theme camp?
Hi everyone, virgin here
I live in Oregon, married, 51, wine distributor and photographer. My husband does not want to go or my friends (their loss). Looking for a theme camp I can camp with that is not heavy into drugs, just fun, but good people who would be willing to show me the ropes. I carry my own weight and have great wine! :D
Decided to go by myself and am planning now but a bit nervous being alone and pondering the shade structure etc. Planning to bring a truck, and tent but the shade structure has me baffled. I can cook or whatever needs to be done. Fine paying dues if it means shade and friendly people.
Most of all I bring a positive attitude and willing to help. Have filled out form for volunteering at the cafe or ice stand. Would love to get in touch with the ice people since they are from PDX. Anyone want to adopt me who has gone before for a few years in a theme camp?Thx so much, trying to make this happen!

This is such a great group. I appreciate all the info. It is hard trying to do this by yourself but I am ready to take on the challenge! I was planning on driving our mini-truck, bring a tent and then trying to figure out the shade situation on my own. I hear rebar works and need to explore all that next. Being by myself I am assuming someone would help me set up if I needed help for a nice btl of vino :)
Would really like to get with a group that has a shade structure and I can pay dues or contribute lots of wine, water and beer. I have a portable shower and grey water tank I can contribute but may blow away

Ice contact?
Anyone have a contact for the ice people? I hear they are from Pdx also and would like to volunteer for them in 2010. Thought it would be a great way to meet people. Also, filled out a form to volunteer for the coffee cafe

Wow, the golden cafe sounds very interesting with the wine cellar. I have LOTS to contribute to that one, even wine tastings and wine classes 101. Certified wine specialist here (la de flippin dah) lol

Volunteering is great fun. My partner and I volunteer a lot--including ice, bus depot, lamp lighters, etc.
There is (or will be as we get closer to the event) a form to fill out on the main site. It asks what you want to volunteer to do; so you can check off ice, play info, whatever. Then based on what you checked off, you are presented with additional forms for more detailed info based on your selections.
Then your info is forwarded to the right people and you are contacted by each camp with the info you need to volunteer, schedule your shifts, etc.

We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.
You guys are bad :)
Doc, thank you for the invite. I GREATLY appreciate it. Due to the fact that my mom-in-laws entire family except for her were killed at concentration camps and I have been to Auschwitz to see it, I better pass based on "politically correct" issues. You re the BEST for asking and helping me. Cant say enough nice things and look forward to a glass of wine with you OR 2.
Looks like the golden cafe may adopt me due to me being a wine geek!

Just so you know, I'm Jewish (yes, wear the Star of David) and lost my entire family at Treblinka, except for my grand dad who got out in the early 30s. Just as only Nixon could go to China, only a Jew could do what I have done. But that doesn't mean you can't "gift" us a bunch of wine! Oh, and those craft beers look more than just a bit interesting as well.
