Where are the burner communities?! (bay area and beyond)

Post by metamorph » Tue Oct 20, 2009 4:32 pm

I've been to the playa twice and can't take living in the machine of a large city any more. San Francisco is my current locale, as it has always been and seemingly will be forever! Being a native is so rare nowadays it seems to me, perhaps because all the others had the good sense to leave after realizing that the transplants have us way outnumbered. ANYway, I have been searching for another suitable location to reside in. And of course, my first choice would be to live around other burners! So I'm wondering if there are any communities or groups within communities, no matter how small, that consists of like-minded people/artists/burners. Maybe there is an awesome oasis right under my nose but if there is I can't find it. I really would like to get out of the city though and live on a non-polluted body of water or lake.. So if anyone knows of anything related to anything I just rambled about, please let me know. I'm so restless.

Detroit is a good place. Lots of empty space and lots of burners.
It's going to be alright.

Personally, I'm waiting for the first gated burner community.

i wish it was combine some things in your poll .... like big city + beach/coast ... and add in a weather option, like "sunny" ....

not that i am a typical burner, or anything ....

is there a typical burner? i keep thinking that burners are everything but typical.

i grew up in santa cruz, and my next door neighbor is a native of SF. people leave their home towns for various reasons ... for CA natives, expense can be a very big one. in my case, it's fog. she's an actress. we all have to find our spot ... good luck with yours ... !

I'd like to live a little in all of them.

One funny thing at BM, it cemented my affinity for the landscape of the South.

Trees and grass and such.

We have a crazy awesome community down here in the SE, home of Preheat and Afterburn in Florida, Transformus in N.C., Alchemy in Ga., and misc. other events - inc. new burns for Alabama, and Kentucky.

Utah has a lively and diverse burner population, kick-ass outdoors from mountains to desert and fabulous red rock, plus Salt Lake City is big enough to offer jobs and careers. Our cost of living is relatively low, and Mormons are friendly if you stay off Temple Square.

But is is Utah. At least our liquor laws are getting less and less weird.

i like the mountains and the high desert.

i love the nothing. I adore the empty Playa like a Soul-mate, Lover and Best Friend.

I have been thru northern africa as well as many times thru northern nevada and the bad lands of SD etc etc and always have the same exhilarating feeling whenever i get there.

comfortable.

as strange as that may sound, i think number one, my cartilage disease and it's symptoms don't hurt as much, and in comparison to the regular crunchiness i experience in place with wild swings in barometric pressure and high humidity, the high pressure and dryness helps these bones.

i just feel better.

no i feel Good, maybe even great...

Secondly, it is the nothing that entrances me...the vast space....the colors of the sky against the tan and brown landscape.

the ores and minerals showing themselves thru the erosion.

the emptiness fills me up....go figure...

the solitude is bustling with ideas, and it is where my mind finally settles, like dust does after a storm.

it collects itself, re-arranges, and becomes new again.

Boulder, Colorado, aka Berkley East. They have their own BM Regional and if that's not enough you can always check out the Denver regional....Calamity's always posting about something or another going on and it's a short drive or RTD bus ride down Hwy 36 giving you double the resources that you will find in many other locations.

And as for AntiM's post...I second her comment about staying away from Temple Square. It's not a very friendly place and we'll leave it at that. But the rest of Utah...it's on my short list of places I'd relocate to if I ever leave Colorado / Nebraska.
