Oh yeah there are loads of risks out there...

Cost Benefit Analysis and your attitude to risk. If you have an appreciation of the risks you can often mitigate that facts. We all use mobile phones but I wouldn't want a base station in my home. So we put them out of harms reach where we can enjoy the benefits without undue risk.

So its better to understand the actual risk and mitigate it...

I really hope the exposures and harm coming to people who go to BM (inc my friends) are negligible. But as you can appreciate its fairly hard to quantify.

YEah. Probably because they are so effin' tiny that we don't have any data.

(Note to self: "See this page with those posters" is not a good button to press for my blood pressure. Whoops, now I'm doomed to die within some remote period of time of some remote relative of hypertension, simply because I exposed myself to the risk. Can I get a support group going here? No, because these are my private thoughts.)

If the BM site talks of risks of burning vehicles - Dioxins etc etc [things which can easily be avoided], would it not make sense to mention the actual playa itself?!!

Playa dust can also be easily avoided. Don't come to where it is. It would be very hard to eliminate the Playa dust from the Playa so I guess the next best thing to do is to eliminate youself from the Playa. End of story!

Well, then, you probably know that when one is knowingly going into high-risk situations, they should be fully prepared. Like reading the abundance of information available on what the playa consists of, and noting all of the packing lists, official and non, that mention some sort of protection for one's face, from the playa dust.

Don't see how that relates to spending time out in the middle of BRC.

But these are risks that one elects to take. I did not elect for lung damage as risk.

Yes, you did, first when you bought your ticket, and then when you showed up - and stayed.

As much as I had a good time at BM...I really don't need the agony of the potential health problems.

So stay home, then. There's plenty of hot burner action all over, the rest of the year. Take the time and money spent on the playa and go to some Regionals.

As much of a time as I had a BM, whether good, puking my guts out, or rubbing salve into my burnt, chafed skin, I probably won't go back, either. Isn't a big deal.

Dude, the whole Great Basin was a class 1 nuclear risk in the early 60's (comparable to Chernobyl, ok maybe not that big, but it sounded good), I think playa dust is the least of your worries.......Uh oh, maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that?
