Newbie from Arkansas
Hey all! 48 year old mom from Arkansas here...I'm totally intrigued by Burning Man and am trying to make plans to attend. Might be traveling with another friend. Looking for any helpful hints for a first timer. Thanks!

welcome;
first, I'd suggest reading and re-reading the first timers guide, and survival guide, available on the Burning Man main site........
then, or concurrently, jump in here with specific questions.......
and,
be prepared for some serious, some funny, some snarky responses.........

Driving or Flying?
So I've been reading everything I can...a bit overwhelming! Am considering driving form Arkansas vs flying. Any info or suggestions welcome...driving would allow being able to haul most of our supplies, also would be a two day trip at least. What are the drawbacks of having my car on the Playa? As for flying...I hear there's plenty of places to rent bikes...what about getting water and other supplies and then getting them to the Playa?

yeah, what C.F.M. said......
the problem with asking, is, you'll get many responses.........(maybe), and, differing opinions.....I'd do some thread reading here....go to the index and find catagories and start finding and reading threads.......and, understand, they do drift......(I've even been known to drift a few).......
But, the info is out there, and, really, only you can answer what it is you want and need.
good luck

Yep, I am in agreement on this: see what you can learn on your own, there are great informative links from the main website, and here, links to list of links, it goes on and on.
I have written about my own experience in self reliance, only to sometimes find the person asking the questions really just wanted a turn-key operation. Some find their playa parents here and they never learn how capable they can be. IMHO a great experience in itself.

Thanks all! The search continues to determine what works for me! Driving will be part of the adventure I believe. C.F.M....points well taken, it's all part of being self reliant. Definitely not looking for playa "parents"...I am one to 5 so I should be able to take care of myself!
Again...thanks for the input...I'm stoked and look forward to meeting some of you!

I;d say that it veries with distance traveled, disposable income, personal preference and 46 other variables I'm not accounting for. Do what works for you.
Which is "do what works for me." Face it, I am the center of the universe and my comfort is paramount.
