CAMP "I" in "TEAM"

Post by MyPlayaUserName » Sun Oct 25, 2009 1:57 pm

I'm thinking of creating camp "i" in team.

i think the best groups are those made up of individuals.

I am all for a camp that is about eyes.
We have an obligation to make space for everyone, we have no obligation to make that space pleasant.

Look, you guys, if you keep picking at him he'll get discouraged and despondent. If he's discouraged and despondent, he won't go through with making his camp. If he doesn't go through with making his camp, he'll have to find somewhere else to camp. If he's looking for a camp, he may want to join Terminal City. If he wants to join Terminal City then we'll have to turn him down. If he gets turned down on his application to join Terminal City, we're just breaking his heart for the second time in a year.

Are we really that unkind?

And suddenly in the middle of writing that, it truly dawns on me just how much of a mafia Terminal City Peeps are on this board.

I think it sounds like a great idea for a camp. I'm sure there have been many lesser ideas for camp.

incidentally, "I", in itself, is intrinsically idiosyncratic, identifying itself, interspersed, innumerably and insufferably, in ineptitude's including irreversible irresponsibly irradiated irises, invitro, in irrevocable isotonic isolation.

Ignore it? including iris injury? inquired intellectually ignorant ideologues, incessantly.

Hm maybe I should have explained myself more, I forgot people take things so seriously!

But "I" stands for "Individual" and "independent", to me two essential parts of my experiences at burning man. I understand a basic need to have community, but I am not a fan of communities with one leader and a group of followers. The strongest groups are those made up of complete people, working together, but each strong in their own right at well. I don't want to take care of someone at burning man, but I'm happy to care for them. There's a difference. When I'm asked my a fellow camper "what are we doing today?" I feel stifled, because I need to go where the breeze takes me. I just intend to camp with a team of individuals, with the common understanding that we each have our own journey to take at burning man.

Also when I say "theme camp" i mean more, a theme for my camp, meaning what I'd call my space I set up. Not some enormous camping site. I was just pleased that for my 4th year on the playa I've finally come up with an idea beyond "I"m camped at...my camp...at ___ & __

I'm thinking perhaps I misused this forum? Is this section just for massive theme camps? I'm not really trying to make a big theme camp, just think up a theme for my already existing camp!

It would seem impossible to misuse this forum......we all do that, to a degree......especially considering the thread drift that occurs by the fourth post (raising hand as guilty).........

carry on, you're doing fine....IMHO.......

I don't know if "Massive" or even "Mammoth" is the correct idea here. It's most certainly not "Placed." I'm not even sure if it's come up before.
A whole lot of action on this board is sort of rough and tumble play, as in kittens or puppies. At one minute you're fighting, hissing, claws out, shortly afterwards the opponents are napping all tangled up in each other, or grooming each other or something.

I guess that this forum is a place for theme camps to knock around ideas of how to work things, recruit possible member, "advertise" our interactive parts known so that people can plan on things that interest them, and to make fun of the hippie camps for singing koombiya.

I nkow that with the whole mess of us playing silly games you might feel a little out of place. So far it's been a little teasing. If we actually thought you were out of line, you'd be in no doubt of it.

Does this help?

Ehem!

Ha ha ha ha ha ha!

Actually this is similar to the way Stag Camp started. We used ePlaya for much of our planning and chit chat for the first two years. All of the first year camp mates found camp through this board. Amazingly it took two years before we had any major word battle in our thread. This is a great place to recruit. Keep on posting your ideas of how camp will be and people who find it desirable will just flow in.

Have fun!

Oh the chaos of it all! I love it.

I'm not really trying to recruit anyone...I'd rather let that sort of thing happen organically. As I said, just sort of announcing my title so if anyone sees a sign bearing the name, they'll come by and say hello! I've got a wonderful burner family I've camped with for the past 3 years, and intend to camp with for years to come, I just sort of wanted to announce myself as an individual within that. Our camp always ends up being a mish0mash of Viking Sirens & Tattooed metal heads. I want to be a part of them, but I'm the type to have people over at my place...I'm sort of the I in their team lol...so why not just admit it, celebrate it, and if I do recruit any new campers,it will be on the basis of understanding that we are all at burning man for individual reasons, on individual journeys, but we still need one another for survival.

2009 I had a bad experience bringing people from the "real" world to my home at burning man, so I'm even more guarded than ever about who I camp with. I love all the burners I meet but wouldn't necesarily want to come home to them! Hell there's even a couple I don't love lol
