I happen to have a couple of bottles of Everclear sitting around (for years) that I've been trying to figure out what to do with... thanks, I'll get on it!

BTW, can't get this stuff in WA state...

Even though I was legally still too young to drink, my buddies and I nevertheless managed to get our hands on beer or booze from time to time.

If anything would help you to get sober and quit drinking beer, it would seeing Billy Carter's ugly-ass mug on the outside of your beer can!

Looked like he got whopped up 'side da head with an ugly stick!

You can get something called Everclear in CA, but it's not 200 proof. And kids, I cannot emphasize this enough, do not mix 200 proof Everclear and cigarettes.

Isn't it usually 190 proof? You can even get it in Utah (at the state-owned liquor store, at an 80% Markup), but only in half-pints.

You may well be right about the proof. I don't drink the stuff and I haven't even been in a bar all year for a Cape Codder or even had a bottle of porter. My little sister was a junier alcoholic at 15 and went on to be a bartender. She could probably have done real well at this thread. I just put together bits and pieces (or even pits and bieces) and try to make something coherent. I still stand by the Everclear and flame don't mix though.

and i am sure it does.

i thought everclear was 192 proof, and it is def not avail in ca. all the reason to get it in reno.

anyone care to clear this up?

Perhaps the alcohol content by volume varies by (state, batch, bottle size, price), as I just recently saw a bottle that was marked 85% alcohol by volume, which a friend bought in NV, just across the border from UT in Wendover (which straddles the border). That was a 750 mL bottle, but they sell 325 mL bottles in UT which are 95%/Vol.

What I remember from my college years about obtaining Everclear: not available in WA; not full strength in CA; go to NV or OR for the real thing.

It's pretty toxic shit any way you slice it. Really the only thing it has to recommend it is that you can get a whole lotta trashed out of one little bottle.

I have a buddy who did that once. He said he had to chase it with milk, it burned so bad. He also wound up on the street getting his stomach pumped by the paramedics. That boy didn't do things by halves.

actually, you can made gin, vodka, or any number of other spirits from it. If I recall correctly, all vodka is is grain cut with water.

The stuff I have is 190 proof, I got it in Montana. It has warnings on the label about being very flammable and not to drink it without mixing it.
Had a friend over a while back that thought he was tough enough to drink anything, gave him a little (straight... I tried to tell him...)

Crypto: He means Grain Alcohol, also known as Ethanol. Many Vodkas and Gins are made from flavored and diluted Ethanol, rather than from their traditional recipes. In fact, few Vodkas are made from Potatoes anymore (Absolut, for instance, is not.) If you want to try a potato Vodka, I recommend Glacier, from Idaho.

Peaches (my wife) works in a Liquor store. What can I say. Fox..henhouse...you know the rest.

actually, the traditional recipe for gin is simply grain cut with water and the requisite medicinals (juniper etc.) dumped in and steeped.

I thought the definition of vodka was distilled potato alcohal. I just can't keep up on this. I should have rested on my snide Bartles and Jaymes laurels.

Although, I did know about the juniper berries.

Useless factoid, probably already in the knowledge of most of you. Vodka and Whiskey (the words) are both derived from the venacular of water. Make you think thoughts about Russian and Gaulic values.
