What does burning man Sound like at night?
Heres an excellent 5.1 surround recoding bumped down to stereo recording from Sterling ELy...
This is him walking up to the 3L3TRONIC djing on the ROBOT HEART bus at the FLAMING LOTUS GIRLS SOMA sculpture.
http://www.sterlingely.com/2009/10/29/testing-out-streaming-surround-sound-audio-via-divshare/
"I recorded this using a Zoom H2 velcroed to my shoulder and converted it to binaural stereo using Vortex Zoom Encoder.
This is an unedited clip, hence why you can hear me adjusting the velcro at the beginning as I walk towards the bus. Stick with it, things’ll get more interesting in a sec :)
Why binaural stereo (simulated surround) and not true 5.1 channel surround audio you ask? Because I can’t stream full surround, and most likely you can’t play it. (The binaural surround simulation is very effective on (good) headphones, but will just sound like regular stereo when played over your computer speakers) Hear the those intermittent whooshes behind you? Yeah, big fire jets being shot from the latest sculpture by the Flaming Lotus Girls.
Anyway, this was really just a quick post to make sure everything works right. All systems go.
Stay tuned for lots more (edited) surround recordings."

If anyone actually does ask you that, I suggest you kick them squah in the nuts.
Stay home; the man will burn without you.
Does that work?
I have heard of unpleasant artifacts created by blending surround together.
Unless I am unfamiliar with something here, binaural refers to a specific method of recording, duplicating human hearing at the recording point.
I have heard some good simulators.
The best I have is on a 1987 sony vcr.
Most seem to have issues.
This has caused a lot of problems with the digital tv conversion and is the reason for a lot of bad audio.
The gov cecbs are restricted and some are just processing audio in a poor manner, as surround is not allowed.
Bizarre.
That's why I ask about the down converting.
Or are you just dropping all but the left/right?

Thanks for this. Not sure how how the mixdown is done, but really nice channel separation.
Were it not for the dust, I'd be real temped to record sets at Burning Man as a momento. Is that even allowed? Artists' permission?

Let's spread the sounds!
I'd love to put more recordings like this on PlayaTunes (http://www.PlayaTunes.com) - the whole point of the site is to relive the aural experiences of BRC, so if anyone has any recordings to send, or links to things already posted & hosted somewhere, please let me know and I'll put them on the site.
Also, I'm trying to start EARLY this year (since I know how playa time effects me once I'm out there) to get the planning in gear for recordings, so any ideas or assistance would be most welcome!

I close my eyes, as a virgin, and remember annual arizona event's I have attended with like minded and veteran burners.
This is exactly what regional and year round events sound like...
If you close your eyes, I hear this as one person..
The beat and the bass are the heart beat, or the thrum of the blood flowing through the veins of "the man".
The people talking and voices are the cells, organs, and pieces of the body, talking in unison...
The "whoosh" or fire noises are the nearby sculpture--are the beast or "man"s lungs, taking in oxygen to feed to the body as it moves and lives...
The voices coming FROM the techno, could easily be the brain, speaking to the rest of the "mans" body...
I'm such a dork. And I'm completely sober. Promise.
