Camp "I" in Storm

Post by theCryptofishist » Thu Oct 29, 2009 3:35 pm

I just wanted my very own theme camp thread.

I think it sounds like a great idea for a camp. I'm sure there have been many lesser ideas for camp.

Hopefully this is not over the line and starting something I can not finish....

Ha ha ha ha ha! I love it!

Your post made me think of my Mother and her incessant need to (re)finish things. Furniture and Art....Sometimes as one. Minwax was always in the utility area when growing up. :)

No, I have a theme camp. If i put this in the theme camp thread, people might think I'm serious about starting a new camp. I don't want to bite off more than I can chew--I've already got a theme night to work on. But, I sitll want a theme camp therad. I'm hoping that people take it seriously enough to post, but not so seriously as to try and join.

That's a good idea....people should make thread for their theme camp that they have no intention of actually doing, then when someone goes there it's something el....ah nevermind

Seems perfectly naturally to me to start a theme camp thread outside of the theme camp threads when you have no intention of having a theme camp.

AntiM, is "camp have a cup of shut the fuck up" the same as fuck yer day?

No indeed, Camp Have a Cup of Shut the Fuck Up is my virtual way of banging my head against the keyboard in despair as I read the eplaya last night. In the grand tradition of hijacking threads, I posted it here rather than begin my own new thread.

It is in no way pointed at Fishy, or indeed, not at any one individual, just a general malaise and dissatisfaction with e-life in general.

Have a nice hot steaming cup of shut the fuck up, means just that, shut up already. It should be uttered in a surly manner, with a sneer and a curled lip. An arched eyebrow is nice if you can manage it. Fuck yer day is jolly in comparison.

Basically, no whining, no self-righteous rants, no conspiracy theories, no magical thinking, and no unasked for advice.

I'm thinking armed mimes with bad attitudes.

Don't help. I'm a self sufficient burner happy to find people where they already are. I don't need to know what a good tent is or how to get to burning man from the airport. I do not want to ward off the heebee jeebies of being alone when I arrive, and do not have any angst about not fitting in. I'm not worried about whether my cell phone will work on the playa. I don't want to know what you eat or drink, or how you keep yourself, your tent, your r.v., or your food cold. I will not ask questions about what you mean by that; and won't argue with you about what you are commenting on (that's not what this forum is for, unless your attitude has been grandfathered in) I will say hello and welcome. I will lock my bike. I will shut the fuck up, and find my own seat, thanks.

Seems like the perfect camp for me.

You have a pretty broad portfolio to drift my threads as you see fit. Especially one of these threads taht I make because it's the only way I can get the title out into the world without drifting the threads of the inspiring threads.

Cryptofishist, I like your unreal threads, because they aren't about information, they are about riffing and kidding around, and that's part of what I really enjoy here. Why should we have to ask a question to get to the part we really enjoy? And the urge to hijack is so strong to get to the riffing and kidding around part. I think these threads are a good stab at a solution to that. What to talk about after we've sort of got the how do I get there, do that, part worked out.

I like the verbal play as well. This site has a function of letting newbies ask questions about serious matters, but if it has no value for veterans then there's no one here to answer them. I try to keep both modes accessible.

"enduring strength of the human spirit" reminds me of Remembrance Day services on November 11th. I always attend the wreath laying at the statue of the Unknown Soldier here but I wonder about honouring war.

Thanks for the architecture pictures, Crypto. One wonders what the pictures of Iraq in times to come will be like. After "shock and awe", I can imagine that much damage occurred and Iraq will never be the same.

Is honouring war and its "heroes" part of the way forward to peace or is it a way backward to more war? Who knows. Each November, I try to spend some time with veterans who have served. Because I have served only in peace time and didn't see any action, I am conscious of those who have. These are the ones among us who are the greatest advocates for peace. Seems there's a lesson there somewhere.

Cool links. I like the cemetary chapel. These are elements of Metropolis worth considering. I used to be aghast when seeing photos or t.v. shows of old old ruins and they added that area residents over time (centuries) had taken parts, bricks, stones, to build their own structures. Looking at how relatively new these building are, it's a real wonder to me that anything from ancient times can even still exist.

Exploring places like these is very compelling as well. This would be an interesting hobby to take up.

Interesting question that I think (hope) Americans learned from the Viet Nam war. The "heroes" are ALWAYS honored, not necessarily the war they fought in.

My grandfather had his leg shot off while crossing the Marne, November 11, 1918. We're a military family, always have at least one person per generation who served. Love the warrior, not the war.

Abandoned places... I have been in an old department store in SLC, Japanese battlements and tunnels on Monkey Island, and the plantation buildings on Diego Garcia. Fascinating.

Some abandoned buildings are worth restoring.

http://www.michiganrailroads.com/RRHX/S ... omasON.htm

This old train station stood vacant for several years and then I decided it needed to be restored. Started a not-for-profit and bought it from the owners in 2001 then started the restoration process. Now it is a vibrant part of our downtown.
