Virgin from Oregon
Virgin from Oregon
Hey all. So, going to Burning Man has always been a dream of mine, and in the past month or so, I finally started watching a few videos from the playa on youtube (dunno why I didn't think of that before), which has really cemented my desire to go in 2010. I wouldn't say I'm hell bent... More like I'd be willing to wade through a neck-deep river of lemon juice and razorblades in order to get there. If my friends haven't murdered me in order to shut me up before then, that is.
I'm from Bend, Oregon, and I go to Cal Poly (central coast, CA).
Anyway, excited to meet/talk with all of you, and hope to see you on the playa!

well......
welcome to eplaya.......a different space than the playa, but, a fun spot just the same.
read and re-read the first timers guide, survival guide, and such info on the main page, and, threads here will have much good info.
jump on in and ask questions here, and, be ready for some true help, some snark, some teasing, etc, etc.......
do your research, though. Many here are impatient with someone wanting it all answered without practicing your "radical self reliance" first......

You do know that you are already in a Burning Man hotbed? SLOBurn--I don't know if that's the name of the regional or of the group there, but you are probably in a great place to meet people and work on projects.

Funny you should mention this. A lot of people use BM to address these childhood issues and fears. You can do this by planning to spend an afternoon or a whole day walking around in only your undies. I found myself a few years back having a loin cloth screen printed and was told afterwards that it needed to dry for a half hour. I still had my sneakers on, but I spent a lot of time in the crowded center camp carrying my loin cloth, butt nekkid. No fear of it anymore!Optic wrote:But I always somehow end up standing up in the middle of those, wearing just my underwear! Then everyone laughs! D: It's a problem!!!

It doesn't really surprise me. Even though SLO is relatively small, it seems like there are really big collections of a lot of subcultures. Even though burners aren't really a subculture in the true sense.theCryptofishist wrote:You do know that you are already in a Burning Man hotbed? I was actually thinking about trying to meet up with some SLO burners and do some planning (although I'll be back in Oregon for the summer, so I'm trying to 'recruit' as many of my friends as I can to go with me). That way I could learn about any potential SLO-based installations, theme camps, etc.
