DAY 100!
DAY 100!
For some reason, my excitement level spikes at day 100 pre-event....I fill out my time-off form, start boosting my water intake, and attack my Playa art projects with renewed vigor.....And YOU?

It is July 5th that makes me realize the time is near. I spend June getting ready for various fireworks shows and when the season has passed I can take a breather. It is then I realize the need to pick up the pace a little. I finished last years' fire art project hours before I left for the Playa. I promised myself this year I would finish the "enhancements", test them and be packed for travel at least a week before I leave. I feel that goal is realistic but that sublte feeling of panic still sets in when I slow down and realize "less than 2 months".
Those who think they can and those who think they can't are both right.

I'm just going to quit my job. It's a very liberating feeling. My wife will graduate from Navy Boot Camp the day of the burn, so I won't need it when I get back. Unfortunately, that means I have to burn without her this year.
Or is it
“We cross our bridges when we come to them and burn them behind us, with nothing to show for our progress except a memory of the smell of smoke, and a presumption that once our eyes watered.”

Yikes yes now less than 100 days till departure-to-playa time! My rig is stored walking distance from work so noontimes at least three times a week now spent working on the engine, cooling, electrical, etc... getting it ready for the big trip. Meanwhile...my non-mechanical campmates are begining to look at new costumes...

if you REALLY want to freak out....
One of the things a friend of mine taught me, in the spirit of realistic preparation, was to think of the time between now (whenever now is) and the playa in terms of weekends. As, realistically, I do very little playa prep - during the week (have got all my camping gear by now, but have costumes & playa gifts & village stuff & my one decent art installation idea to figure out) .
So including this weekend we are now in, we've got a scant 14 weekends left.
YIKES!
I mean....YAY!
Wait...I think I did mean YIKES!

I am currently working on an installation piece myself and would like hear a suggestion or two on where to present it: Center Camp, my camp, etc. The piece is not large at all; about the size of a chess table. It will be my first "showing" at Burningman. Whatever advise is greatly appreciated.

Day 100
I don't really like counting down until the Man BURNS. That's when Burning Man winds down after all. I much prefer counting down how many days until I leave town on my journey to BRC or how many days until the start of the event. Off the top of my head, I'm not exactly sure how many days that is at the moment, 90 something. I like the idea of counting it in weekends. Smaller numbers. I do hate the "wishing summer away" feeling though since Burning Man marks the end of summer, and summer is just barely starting, hasn't really even started yet for another week.

Day 100, except for psychologically personal reasons, doesn't mean a thing to me. I went out to garage sales this morning, like most Saturdays in May and June, picked up eight Barbies (total cost: $1.50), and will begin constructing their little piece of Barbie Death Camp come late July. I have been going for so many years that routine becomes the norm: I have the camping gear/RVs set by November, our diet never changes really (after all, what can one do with 20 cases of wine, 10 cases of beer, and 120 microwavable burritos and a few dozen grapes to wash the mushrooms down with?), and our art is an ever-expanding journey. But I salute those of you who find a certain mystic reasonance in Day 100. I start getting really excited around Day 30. Or 350, whichever comes first.

Well, this is my first message here and last year was my first Burn. It was like going to another planet inhabeted by humens! Quiet groovy. For me there are many spikes of exitment, whenever I think about it I get happy. Everyone thought I was NUTS to go alone for my first time. But i'll tell you it is an amazing, butifull and scary expearince. This time i'm going with 3 friends, so it should be a completly diffrent trip. By the way if there's anyone from the Auburn or Grass Valley erea, drop me a line!

Re: oooooo.....burrrrrning maaaan
I have yet to attend BM. However my ticket is lovingly cared for daily.
Unfortunately I've been so busy I haven't really contemplated Burning Man other than to request my time off.
I've got a huge mental checklist of items to accomplish/obtain yet that needs to be written/typed out.
Augh! The panic sets in!
My excitement level will peak when I hit the road for Burning Man. Up until the point on any trip when I leave the house and depart for my destination (return home?) I'm pretty ambivalent about things. Once I'm on the road I'll probably freak out.
I really need to contemplate costumes. As much as I want to avoid the spectator sport, I'm afraid I'll hit sensory overload on the playa.

Day 100? Hadn't even thought of it that way ... 14 weekends, to that I concur, YIKES!
Although I swing between CALM (hey, we got all the camping gear we need and the tickets, I got trinkets, I got art, the rest is gravy) and PANIC (yow, how do I get the niece to Utah from NM? Will Larry be back off the road in enough time to pack and rest for the long drive? How will I attach those 13 painted cosmetology heads to the bike canopy? Larry? Larry? How the hell will I get ready when I can't even drive and the UTA sucks ass?).
We're not even bringing the Amish bondage buggy bar this year, and it is the most prepared item we've got.
just breathe,

I'm slowly getting things together. I'm still not 100% I'm gonna make it this year, the 100 day mark has set some panic for me. The pressure is on and I've gotta make it out this year (for my own sense of personal sanity...I need a fucking vacation for myself... i.e. No Family! & in need of insipration)
I've got some nice costume ideas planned...my costume for the night of the burn will be cool...I'm going for a kinky/japanese/geisha look (has nothing to do with this years theme, but oh well), but for the majority, I'll be partially nude.... Got all my supplies lined up, gonna start purchasing everything shortly. Need take my SUV in for a complete check up and get it ready for the long road ahead.
Mentally, I'm getting super excited! When I'm all stressed out or feeling down in the dumps, I think of BM and how much I need the experience and how close I am to actually going, and it perks me up. My family see's how unhappy I am right now and they are being really cool about me deciding to journey off into the desert alone to "find myself". Obviously my parents are concerned about it, because they've never heard of it. But I impressed my mom when I sat her down and gave her my "speach" about BM, about what it ment for me and what it does for thousands of people each year. Showed her my "plan" and layed out the costs and realities of the trip I was planning.
the only way I'll make it out this year is if my parents help me out finacially... so I'm sweet talking them into paying my way to and from BM if I buy the ticket and all the supplies. *crosses fingers*......

Day 100/14 Weekends - Yow!
This is my first burn this year - I am totally excited about it. I can not wait.
I dream about it, think about. I have already put the time off on my calendar, reschedule other events around the time for the event and decompression following the event.
My camp is having a first meeting tonight which will certainly add to the excitement as well. I need to start preparing. I have a few items on my growing check list - but at least I am going with my partner who did his first burn last year and is keeping me calm.
See you all at BRC.

2004 First Burn
IT IS DAY 100!!! I could not be any more psyched. Well, maybe on day 3 1/2. Anyways, this is awsome. I cannot go through the day without mentioning Burningman at least 100 x. Everything I see, smell, taste, and hear I associate in some way to Burningman. Today I saw a very older woman walking the street in a trippy pattern dress, mismatched socks, very big hat, carrying a cool beach bag and I though,"that would look cool at BM." My random acts of kindness have increased. I love it. GET ME TO BLACK ROCK CITY NOW BEFORE MY FRIENDS HAVE ME COMITTED!!
BOOBIES!!!
to Lorgasm...
At least I'm not the only one. My friends and family think I've gone completely mental, they take the brunt of it since I can't say much at work (THEY would really have me comitted) This will be my third burn and I get all hyper and giddy every time I think about it ;)

I think in terms of "How long before I have to leave?" too. I'm self-employed and work out of the home, so I'm not worried about taking time off. It takes a whole day to get to the Playa from where I am — twelve hours — Bay Areans can give thanks that they really only have two roads to traverse...
So when I saw on the top page last week "The Man Burns in 107 Days" I went YIPES!!! Because for those of us doing theme camps, that's the 100-day warning. Actually 98 days because it takes about a day or so to pack up and load up and get down there...
So this weekend, I'm marking the 90-day warning.

100 days
My prep time has been halved each year since my first in 99. Last year I spent a week solid printing/copying signs, cutting plastic sheeting, and ironing on Pooping Man icons on scarves. Then I spent approx 2 net hours throwing stuff in the back of my truck the day I left for the Playa. I had just moved states, so basically it was one "small" pile for BM, everything else chucked into the storage locker. I'm much more relaxed this year (I'm hoping anyway). This year I'm shooting for 1 hour...out the door...CHUD!!
Does spending excessive amounts of time loitering on ePlaya count as "preparation"?
Shit, I better buy some scarf fabric. Gadz! I better get an inkjet printer cartridge! Christ !! My dome tent is still gobbled up on my porch, still playa-fied. FUCK! I need to make another prairie bonnet!
Don't make me lose my shit here.

So I'm a late bloomer...
When I first read this thread (right when it was first posted) I kind of felt odd that I wasn't anticipating my first burn as much as everyone else. Well, it's set in now. I'm excited as can be with plane and BM tickets in hand, gobbling up supplies and writing it all down and making notes of what I still need to get... Hopefully all my organization doesn't go down the drain when I go to move out (whenever that happens)... Anyone else get that boost of excitment around day 80????
