Camp spots on the way to and from BM from the NW?

I am driving down from Portland to BM and am leaving Fri night before it starts and going to arrive Mon before noon on the playa. Does anyone know any campgrounds before you get to the burn to stay that has showers etc coming from the north? Or is it better to go play in Reno a night but isnt that 2 hours south? Thx!

I love your obscessiveness and attention to the details. I guess I'm not the only one!!
You are much better leaving Portland early and getting to Reno and staying the night there at a hotel. This will give you the much needed time to hit the ground running and go shopping for all your food and supplies first thing in the morning. You will get a good nights sleep and a really long, hot shower before heading off to your dusty destiny! Dust will become your best friend!

This place is run by a Burner from right here on eplaya, "WeDeliver". Hell of a nice guy. Tell him you're on your way to BRC (as if it isn't obvious enough!) and he'll make you a great deal, and you'll undoubtedly be camping with a bunch of other Burners while you're there.

Depends on which way you drive.

If you go the east side of the Cascades, there is a State Park campground at Goose Lake at the OR-CA border. (free RV dump)

Or about an hour before you get to Lakeview, Summer Lake Hotsprings with a hot pool. (burner friendly) Camping, Cabins, RV Hookups

Best shopping that way is in Bend. Lakeview is OK, but the selection is not as good.

Have I told you all HOW much I LOVE you!

I think Eagles nest it is and maybe if I feel energetic I will go down to Reno. I would love suggestions from you old farts (meaning that in the most loving way) on the things to see before and after the burn one each way. Heard there is a good place for indian tacos or something like that. Yes, I am obsessive and the planner for everything. I used to be a travel agent and travel is my drug of choice. Like to be prepared and not miss the highlights.

Thx espresso dude also. I will look at that. My directions I got online have me going through Klamath Falls, Alturas, Cedarville, then to Gerlach.

Anything past K-Falls to get groceries or better to stock up on fresh stuff there? I am sure I will figure it out, I am a bright girl but love the suggestions

Hmmm, I havent done it in a few years but I would probably talk to someone local or google it. Try to find a company local who does corporate travel and they should be reliable. I think with the internet, you should be able to find some groups that way. If you do, and are not sure of the company, send me a link and I can research it. Italy is the BEST btw.

Here is my recommendation and it is not actually an order or completely things that I have done.
I would go by way of Wedeliver's place on the way down. I had the single best shower of my life there after the event last year. It is true that he gifts stays but it is cool to gift him something for the stay. Anyway it would be a good start to the event with the burners that are there. They may even convince you to hit the gate at opening and you could then roll in with new friends.
After the event I would head to the hot springs outside Lake View. I have heard rave reviews about it and having burners there to hang with for a while would probably be a good way to start your decompression.

Exodus is something you will want to think about. There are typically light times where you can get the heck out of dodge easily but there there are times where you may be in line for 6 hours or more. In general the earlier in the morning you hit the road the better. Please Please get a full nights rest before you hit the road. There are numerous wrecks as people leave the event. I must have seen at least a dozen spots where vehicles left the road between Gerlach and Cedarville. I saw as many near misses on the part of drivers leaving the event that night too. Being rested enough to be at the top of your game driving wise will really help the return to defaultia. It is incredibly stressful and dangerous to drive in a sleep deprived state after the event.
I will once again be leaving BRC on Tuesday morning after a final mooping of my theme camp and camp area. If you were of the mind to help your fellow Hushvillians with a final moop sweep and clean up then it would be perfectly ok to leave Tuesday morning. My Monday night exodus last event was really pushing it.

Alturas does have some pretty good day time services but Klamath Falls is probably the best spot for last minute stock ups. I always get gas in Alturas and top off again in Cedarville on my way in so I have plenty of fuel to get back to Cedarville on the way out.

I read and research everything now on BM and am absolutely giddy to go. Now I have to run and get in the shower to go look for glow lights etc for Black Friday!!!! Boy, how my priorities have changed.....

Yep! In Alturas at the main intersection when you hit town is a Chevron that will be full of burners, it's a good fuel stop and has an RV dump around the side. Across the street from it is the general store, a burner-friendly place to stock up, and they have a hose out back that you can use to load up your water. There's also a liquor store down the street where you can load up on booze at cheap California prices.

Cedarville is a good last stop before playa. When you come down from Cedar Pass and hit town, there's a gas station run by a very burner-friendly guy. He often has a big barbeque going out back, stays open late, and has a pressure-washing station to hit post-playa. In the middle of town, on your left, is a great restaurant.

I always skip Gerlach.

If you're loaded really heavy, I recommend getting to K-Falls via HWY 58 at Eugene. That seems to be the easiest climb over the mountains.

We're partial to Summer Lake Hot Springs just this side of Paisley, OR on OR Hwy 31 an hour or so out of Bend. A soak in the hot springs is just the thing after a long drive. The Burner ambiance is wonderful around the fire pit after your soak...I always sleep under the stars when it's time to turn in.

From there we take a leisurely drive to BRC...dining in Cedarville as well as topping the fuel tank. Remember, Cedarville is the last place for fuel on the way to and back from BRC, a round trip of about 100 miles. I don't recommend stopping in Gerlach for anything...major congestion with 85-90% of attendees heading home that way.

Cedarville is a great place to stop. I took the long way home and went through there. The gas at the Chevron is as reasonble as you will find at a Chevron, down the street the ice cream was wonderfulon a warm day. It is worth a few minutes to check out the bookstore, Michael always has an interesting selection. Make sure your vehicle is in good repair there were several school buses, motorhomes and trailers beside the road.

Most of town is to the right when you arrive at the Chevron in Cedarville, but if you walk the other way down the street (to the left as you arrive in town) there's an old theater, now a storage building... roughly across the street is a house where this old guy lives. I see him almost every year - he usually comes out to chat. He tells amazing stories about the old days, being in the service, he has this awesome old photo album he always brings out. As you walk from the Chevron, the old theater is on the left, his place is on the right. If you're lucky, you'll run into him. Nice old guy, very interesting, always one of my favorite parts of the road trip.

Cedarville is a great place to stop, get out, walk around, and hang out before and after the playa. I recommend leaving for the playa way early - like a day early. Somehow the extra time always comes in handy, shit happens.
You can "stage" yourself in Cedarville so that you arrive on the playa at whatever time you prefer. Sometimes you wanna get there right at midnight Sunday as the gates open... sometimes you wanna arrive early morning all refreshed so you can set up camp when you arrive... etc.

Not that I know of, but the aforementioned Eagles' Nest RV does and they're at least as good a staging/launch point as Cedarville. You can tank up your water jugs there, shower, one last Internet, and probably leave with a few other Burners.

One thing I WILL say â€” after you leave Cedarville, WATCH OUT ON THE OPEN RANGE. No joke, cattle get on the road and it's not good if you hit them. Last time I went to the Playa I got stuck a few minutes from the state line, in the front row watching a bovine orgy in the middle of the road.
