Yes, it was. Some sort of chestnut blight in the 20s or so. Changed the character of the forests. Although, there'd already been, what?, 250 years of the white man and who knows how many centuries of the american indian harvesting and altering the ecology.

Ahem. Excuse me. There is always Buy Nothing Day. YOu get to do the exact same thing, but you ascribe more purpose to it.

I've decided that, for me, BND is really about avoiding excess consumerism. I'm 'buying' all the time whether I like it or not. I'm going out tonight for fun, drinks will be bought, but it's no different than any other friday.
It's going to be alright.

I'm okay with that.

It still seems something worth mentioning.

It is worth mentioning Crypto. Not trying to dis the event at all. They need to push very hard in that direction in order to move the world slightly their way. It's a huge task.

No doubt that was the intention.

Wonder where the goat is tonight?

Maybe I'll roast some coffee beans over the fire and see if that brings him out from hiding.

Very clever little ditty. I had to look up Oksana Baiul to figure out what it was about. I knew she was a skater but didn't know about the drunk driving charge.

Glad to see you in a chipper kind of mood, Goathead.

Okay.
I generally don't get autographs.

I do have a shirt that Judy Tenuta wrote some rude suggestions on, but that's another story.
When we put on Rocky Horror here I got everyone to sign a program.
They ranged from the professional and demure to 'Fuck me blind.'

Oh, not simply drunk, but spectacularly drunk, and at fabulously high speed too.

Well, Wikipedia is not so specific about the details. Merely saying she had the charge and got off by taking some kind of alcohol education course.

She always had that grin.
A rarity among russians, I think.

Boguinskaya, the most graceful of all gymnasts, almost never smiled, just a flash here and there.
