I have a friend who wants to skate instead of bike...suggestions? insight?
Also, where can I find a really big, relatively inexpensive tent??

hm.
would he skate on cobblestones? a foot of talcum powder? a foot of talcum powder on top of cobblestones?
I've never skated, so I honestly don't know what's doable. But I've also never seen someone on a board out there. I bet there's a reason.
Your google search on big ass tents is probably as good as mine.

My boyfriend has a dirt board... He took it to burningman a few years ago and didn't have any problem with playa getting into his scheizer, but maybe that's just luck.
Looks like tonka truck wheels on huge, raised trucks, and its all set up on your average deck, the deck sits like 8" off the ground- probably check out your local skate shop, or a place that supplies shit for downhill skating coz if they don't have them they can probably tell you where to find them.

Tent Advise - Well really it depends on HOW big you are looking into . THey have 4 to 8 ROOM tents.
I suggest finding an outlet camping store * that is where i got mine *. I have a rather large 5 to 6 person tent that was a 2001 model, so it was at the outlet store, it was a lot cheapter and is Playa Perfect for me!
Do a search on tents, find the type/style/size you want and they hit the stores! I went to about 5 different camp stores before i found that one.
When you do find the perfect Playa Tent For You to sure to set it up a few times to make sure all the pieces are there ( and you know how to ) Also Seal is with some weather tent seal or Silicone!!
Good Luck!
On Skateboards, Skateboards work just fine as long as they have off roading wheels and the same goes for off roading roller blades. Last year i noticed the boards end to kick up A LOT of dust, so as long as he is considarate of others, I dont think it would be a problem! Be sure he brings some type of DW40 ( or whatever it is called ) things dry out A ALOT out there !

[quote="spectabillis"]unless you can hook off a vehicle which is easy since they are all moving slow. quote]
As a Mutant Vehicle owner/operator I don't allow this anymore due to the risk, the hassles, they always want to "go faster", swerve in/out of you "wake", and the potential for abuse. So be sure to ASK nicely before hooking onto a vehicle (don't assume any old vehicle will allow this).
But, a bicycle does a great job as a tow vehicle! If the Playa is hard, you can go faster than you should for sure. Just don't fall!

I rarely ask becuase it is SO hard not to. I mean, street hooking cars and delivery trucks is scary, its one of the only chances you can safely do it. I know there are tools out there that fuck it up for others, but skatepunks are not exactly a bunch that listen to 'no' very well.dragonfly Jafe wrote:As a Mutant Vehicle owner/operator I don't allow this anymore due to the risk, the hassles, they always want to "go faster", swerve in/out of you "wake", and the potential for abuse.
